WINGTIP: Did you know that in September birds are beginning to search out food plots in preparation for the upcoming winter? Keep your bird feeders well stocked with wild bird feeds so birds will put you on their daily route as the seasons change. Spring bird Migration

Why do birds migrate? How do the know when to migrate? How do they migrate? These and more insight about bird migration.

While some birds migrate, other birds remain in a specific territory or region where food and nest sites are plentiful. But what happens when a bird's natural food source collapses or is covered by prolonged heavy ice and snow? They may make a shift to another region where food is easier to access. These movements are known as 'bird irruptions'.

Besides watching the seasonal transition of birds in your backyard, bird migration in the spring or the fall offers the perfect opportunity to go out and observe the birds you won't see in your backyard. You'll witness unique bird species that are just passing through. You may even encounter a rare bird sighting. A once in a lifetime experience. So what do you need to know to take a bird walk in a city park, or look for birds in a wildlife refuge? It's easier than you think.

Feeding suet is not just for the winter months. In fact woodpeckers will consume about 30% more animal protein between march and early autumn than all winter. That's why suet makes a high energy ready made supplemental source of animal protein for woodpeckers and other birds.

Those daylight robbers have little more to do than when the sun comes up but to try and outsmart you. And they are very good at doing so. So how do you keep them grounded from getting on your bird feeders?

Blue Jays have had a reputation as the bad boys of the backyard; boisterous and aggressive. However that's not the case. The House Wren is more of a culprit to disrupt other bird's nests and their young, or the invasive House Sparrow or European Starling that will kill the occupants of another bird's nest. Everyone should encourage Blue Jays in their yard. Apart from the entertainment Blue Jays provide they also alert other birds to predators in the area. They will even congregate in a 'party' of jays to drive the intruder off.

Food, water, shelter and space are the four components all living organisms need to survive. So birds truly benefit from our desire and passion to help them out by providing food, water, and shelter. We offer them space by planting habitat and creating natural spaces. But did you know birds return many benefits to us in exchange for our lending them a hand.

OUR MOST POPULAR HOPPER & PLATFORM BIRD FEEDERS

Environmentally
Friendly Bird Feeders
Although the durability and natural look of cedar bird feeders continue to be preferred, the new line of feeders made from 100% post consumer recycled plastic is gaining in popularity. Many of these bird feeders have a lifetime warranty against fading, pealing, cracking, and chipping. They clean up like brand new, even after years of use. And speak of easy cleaning, many of the cedar and recycled plastic feeders we stock have removable perforated steel bottoms. This also allows moisture to pass through and the seed to remain dry.
