Fresh Seed!

3 New Varieties Available

Trials and Tribulations

This last growing season was not without its pitfalls. We planted our main garden in a new spot this year and needless to say it was not without its challenges. The forces of Mother Nature seemed to be against us and the hindsight list is long; still learning even after all these years. Unusually late frosts, relentless winds, well/irrigation breakdowns and a large rodent population that I wasn’t aware of along with several other factors made it very challenging.

Fortunately, we were able to collect seeds for most of our varieties including 3 new varieties we have been working on that are now available. We were also able to advance several dozen crosses for future releases.

We are pleased to announce an amazing tasting cherry tomato. One of the best we have ever tasted. Tim’s Taste of Paradise not only provides unbelievable flavor but it also comes with a unique story. The other two new releases that we are happy to announce are Golden Hour and Mini Marzano. These varieties are technically indeterminate but grow super compact, 12” – 20”, and have outstanding harvest potential.

Exciting News

We are so lucky and blessed that Blue Chalk Media reached out to Wild Boar Farms to be featured on one of their new episodes of “From the Source” on the Magnolia Network. This is estimated to air in December 2022. Chef Katie Button picks one type of food to learn more about and inspires in the kitchen using that item. Blue Chalk Media’s crew was exceptionally skilled and professional and made it fun to work on this with them on this for 5 days in this past August.

Golden Hour - New Release

New Release for the 2023 Growing Season! Wild Boar Farms is pleased to announce this great new to the tomato world variety! Micro-mini plant habitat with big production and great flavor. Average size 1–2 oz. Oval roma shaped yellow with some anthocyanin stripes turning golden orange at final ripening stage. Extremely durable, crack resistant and can store for weeks at room temperature. Very good tomato flavor, sweet with fruity notes; lower acid. Mostly meaty with some juice. Great to eat fresh; makes legendary sauce.

Micro-mini plant habitat. The plants average 10”-20” tall with exceptional production potential. This variety has produced the largest harvest we have ever seen for it’s size. It is an indeterminate plant. You can have ripe fruits and flowers on the same plant at the same time. However, a large percentage of the harvest can be done at one time. The fruits are so durable they can be left on the vine ripe until most of the green fruit ripens.

This variety does extremely well for us in the garden but it really shines for container gardeners. The variety uses less space, light, nutrients and gives you more delicious tomatoes.

Golden Hour originated from a cross done by Mark Seabolt using Brad’s Atomic Grape and crossing it with a micro-mini variety. We expect more great varieties from this cross in the future.

Wild Boar Farms grew hundreds of plants over 7 generations electing the best of the best and we are very pleased with the results!

Tim's Taste of Paradise - New Release

We’ve just released Tim’s Taste of Paradise. This small cherry tomato variety has not only exceptional flavor, but on amazing history. Developed in the late 1990s by plant breeder Tim Peters and released as the experimental variety ”Fruity Mix”, it was nearly lost to the world when Tim closed his business in the early 2000’s. This would have been a huge loss – its unique flavor, sweet and intensely fruity, has the elusive umami flavor described by top chefs. People who have tasted it prefer it to Sungold hands down and is much more crack resistant. It is the result of crossing dozens of wild species with domestic tomatoes and could not be reproduced with more conventional breading.

Fortunately, in 2018, tomato aficionado Tien Chiu rediscovered a 17-year-old seed packet, preserved by botanists Rob Ferber and Linda Maepa of Little Grove Farms and managed to grow out just three plants from the old seeds. Wild Boar Farms has further developed, stabilized and refined the variety and is not releasing it as Tim’s Taste of Paradise.

This is the perfect tomato for home growers, with excellent vigor and great productivity. The only downside is that you won’t be able to resist them, so very few of the tomatoes will make it into the house!

Wild Boar Farms Hand Tie-Dye & Dyed Shirts

We are happy to announce the availability of hand dyed and tie-dyed Wild Boar Farms T-Shirts. We did the dying ourselves. This is something that we have wanted to do for a long time. Consider these shirts as one-of-a-kind prototypes as we tried multiple different techniques and honestly we are very happy with the results.

This will also Test the Feasibility to see if it is something we can offer in the future. We used quality Port & Company 100% cotton T-shirts. Each shirt is pre-washed, hand dyed and then post-washed.

As mentioned above each shirt is a one of a kind prototype so if you like the design and its your size, don’t hesitate!
