Don't Mess with Success!

Measure Q is a proposal on the upcoming ballot to renew an existing parcel tax that has provided vital funding for our local public schools for over two decades. If passed, Measure Q would maintain the current tax rate without increasing taxes. This funding supports the retention of highly qualified teachers, academic programs in core subjects like science and math, and technical/vocational training to prepare students for college and careers. An independent citizens' oversight committee and annual audits ensure the funds are used efficiently and effectively, and seniors and individuals with disabilities are exempt from the tax. For more information, go here.

ATHLETICS UPDATES

Our Winter Sports season (men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, co-ed wrestling) is around the corner with tryouts beginning the week of November 4th! You can find the try-out information here (update coming soon). Students must have a GPA which is 2.0 or higher to be eligible to participate in athletics.

Athletic Clearance is required for participation in tryouts/practice. Follow the steps below:

  • Create an account on Home Campus.com.
  • Complete the registration process, which includes uploading a current signed physical form.
  • You will be notified by email of the status of your student athlete’s clearance.
  • Students must have a GPA which is 2.0 or higher to be eligible to participate in athletics (October 21st was the Date of Determination). Grades from this quarter are used to determine eligibility for BOTH students already participating in Fall Sports and those that want to TRYOUT for Winter sports teams.

If your student athlete does not meet this requirement, they will not be able to continue with their fall sport NOR will they be able to try out for any Winter sports teams.

Student athletes not meeting the 2.0 or above GPA (unweighted) requirement may apply for a one-time Academic/Athletic Waiver (can only be used ONE TIME in their 4 year high school career) which allows the student athlete a grace period of 1 quarter to bring their grade back up to a 2.0. while continuing to participate in athletics.

For more information, please check out our DVHS Athletics page or reach out to SueEllen Thomas, Athletic Director, for any questions or to discuss the option of the waiver.

ATTENDANCE UPDATES

Our school’s attendance rate for September was 96.59%, and improvement over last year at 95.23%. Our goal for October is to reach 97% and we need your continued dedication, commitment and support by both students and their families in ensuring that students attend school regularly.

To maintain this positive trend, we kindly remind parents and guardians of the following important procedures:

Early Pick-Up

If your student needs to be picked up early from school, please notify the attendance office in advance (see phone numbers below). This will help us ensure that your student's departure is handled efficiently and does not disrupt classroom instruction.

Absence Corrections

Should you notice that your student has been mistakenly marked absent, please ask your student to communicate with their teacher to complete an absence correction form. This will help us keep accurate records and ensure that your student’s attendance is properly documented.

To report an absence, call 925-479-6400, press 1, then press:

  • Last name A-Ful, press 1 for Attendance Secretary Heidi Bindi
  • Last name Fum-Loz, press 2 for Attendance Secretary Angela Larraga
  • Last name Lu-Sand, press 3 for Attendance Secretary Laurie Bowen
  • Last name Sang-Z, press 4 for Attendance Secretary Tharsne Supramaniam

Again, thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to your student's education. If you have any questions or need further assistance regarding attendance, please do not hesitate to visit our Attendance page or contact our Attendance Office.

Unauthorized bike & scooter parking on campus

We have observed an increasing number of students parking their bikes and scooters in unauthorized areas, including stairwells, doorways, and railings. This creates serious safety hazards and cannot continue.  Effective Monday, September 16, bikes and scooters must be parked in one of the two designated areas:

  • Between the 4000 Building and the CTE Building, along the back road
  • Between the Main Gym and the Auxiliary Gym.

Parking bikes or scooters on hand railings, pillars, or in front of doors is strictly prohibited. This practice obstructs emergency exits, creating a violation that can be flagged by fire inspectors, and compromises the safety of our entire school community.  Failure to do so will result in the removal of the bike and a conversation with an administrator.

Please note that DVHS is not responsible for lost or stolen bikes or scooters. Your cooperation is critical in maintaining a safe and accessible environment for everyone.

Student permits required to park at DVHS

Students driving to school will need to purchase a parking permit through the Webstore. Cars that don’t display a valid DVHS parking permit will be ticketed beginning Monday, August 28. It is important to allow extra time in the morning so students can make it to class on time.

Congratulations to our Fall Athletes and all their successes!

  • Congratulations to Women Golf for winning EBAL and WINNING NCS- DIV 1 Champions!!
  • Congratulations to Cross Country runners that will also make NCS
  • Congratulations to Men’s Water Polo team making NCS
  • Congratulations to Flag Football for making it to the Playoffs

Good Luck to all our teams that are in the playoffs–GO WILDCATS!!

Thank you also to all our Fall Sport families who donated but we are 50K short for our fall sports operating budget. If you haven’t donated yet, please do so now. Click here to donate.  If you want to better understand your sport team’s budget and how your donations help, reach out to your team parent or email us at dvhighab@gmail.com.

ATTENTION Winter Athlete Parents!

Winter Sports parent meeting will be on November 18th at 6pm in the Commons. At this meeting, you will receive more information from your team parents and coaches about your winter sport team’s budget, please review and donate. Fall Sports Donations are 50K short for our fall operating budget and these shortfalls pose a serious threat to the continued success and sustainability of our beloved sports teams. We do not want to have the same for our winter sports. Your generous contributions are essential to providing our student-athletes with the necessary resources to not only compete at a high level but also to ensure the continued existence of our programs. Aside from the Head Coach, which is covered by the district, all other costs must be covered by parent donations. These funds support equipment purchases, facility use, League Fees, assistant coaching salaries, and more. Without your support, we risk having to cut back on programs or even eliminate them entirely.

We understand that everyone's financial situation is different, but even small donations can make a big impact. Your support will help ensure that our student-athletes have the opportunity to develop their skills, learn important life lessons, and create lasting memories.

Please make your donations to our winter athletics programs. Your generosity will help us maintain the quality of our sports offerings and provide our students with a positive and enriching experience.

2025 Yearbook Info

Want a yearbook? Don't wait, buy now!

Printing for the yearbook happens throughout the school year, so the printer requires us to commit to how many books we will order and pay for during the first semester. We can't afford to pay for yearbooks that don't sell, so we order a few extras, but when they sell out, we can't order more. So, if you want to guarantee you get a yearbook, order it now. If you wait until the end of the year, you may or may not get one. Yearbooks are part of ASB, so if you already ordered ASB, you will get a yearbook. If you did not order ASB, you can order yearbooks on their own for $135 by going to the DVHS webstore, or you can order from the DVHS bookkeeper with either a check or cash. Don't wait, order today!

Senior portraits

We began notifying seniors in the spring last year of the need for them to make an appointment and take their senior portrait during the summer or immediately upon their return to school in the fall. We have a deadline of November 6, so please check to make sure your senior has either already taken their senior portrait, or has an appointment for no later than November 6. If your senior student does not yet have an appointment, you need to call Studio One Photography immediately to arrange for an appointment. There are very few openings left, so call 925-361-0430 as soon as possible (weekdays between 10:00 - 5:00) to make your appointment.

Because there are not many appointments available, we have arranged for Studio One Photography to provide a last-chance opportunity for seniors to take senior portraits here on campus on November 6 between 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. To sign up for a time slot, call them at 925-361-0430 as soon as possible. Don't miss your last chance to get into the senior portrait section of the yearbook!

Senior ads

Senior ads are available for purchase through the DVHS webstore. Ads are available in the following sizes: eighth of a page; quarter page; or half page. Due to our printing deadlines, the earlier you purchase your ad and supply the photos and written message text, the better it works for us. We offer EARLY BIRD PRICING through November 3. STANDARD PRICING goes through November 17. LAST MINUTE PRICING goes through January 19. If any space is available, PLEASE LET ME STILL ORDER AN AD PRICING is available through February 16. Order early and get the best price!

Once you have ordered your senior ad, you can go to www.dvhsyearbook.org and click on Senior Ads to see samples of each size ad. That will give you an idea of how many photos and how much text will fit. Once you have your content ready, go to www.hjeshare.com and enter our school code of 12540, after which it will let you upload up to 10 images at a time. Be sure to put in the descriptions the name of the student whose senior ad it is for, and indicate it is for a senior ad. Email the message text for your ad to jsilverman@srvusd.net.

DVHS Library

THANK YOU TO ALL THE FAMILIES WHO DONATED TO THE LIBRARY DURING REGISTRATION!

How can you help support the DVHS library? There are a few ways!

  1. We have an Amazon Wish List that we update frequently. Everything from bookmarks to games, school supplies, and, of course, books! Items get sent directly to us.
  2. Make a donation via the Future Fund 100% of the donation comes directly to the library.
  3. Do you have any gently used AP/SAT/ACT/College prep books that are no longer needed? We’d love any issues from 2022 onward! You can drop them off in the front office or send them with your student.

Lastly, we would like to offer our sincerest thanks to families who donated to the DVHS Library during registration. Your donations will be used this year, for your student(s). Without donations, we could not thrive to the capacity that we do! If you did not get a chance to make a donation or want to donate again, it’s not too late! Please visit the FutureFund website to donate.

Please reach out with any questions! We are here to serve the fabulous patrons of the amazing DVHS community!

REACH Academy

Donations are being accepted for sealed school supplies in the bins which are placed near entrances in each class building for our sister school REACH Academy, an underprivileged TK-5 public school in Oakland. Through this drive, we hope to close educational gaps and provide hardworking students with resources to better prepare them for future growth. Specific supplies they need include pencils, yellow highlighters, spiral notebooks, markers, and construction paper! If you prefer to buy online, here’s the link to purchase items on Amazon from the school’s wish list (linked here as well). After you add an item to your cart and proceed to checkout, make sure you select “DV Community's Gift Registry Address” as the delivery address (this will automatically be one of your options).

SRVUSD TECHNOLOGY UPDATES

This school year, aligned with our lost/damaged textbook policy, students/families will be held financially responsible for the repair/replacement cost for physical damage to a device, or the loss of a device, whether accidental or purposeful. Families are not responsible for normal wear and tear of devices. For any families who encounter a situation where their student’s device has been physically damaged or lost, who are concerned about this being a financial burden, they should speak directly with their school. We encourage you to review this Technology One-Pager for more information and links to additional resources.
