DVHS PTSA MEETING - JAN 16 , 7 PM

Parents,

We know the process of teaching your teen how to drive and earn their license can feel daunting.

That’s why we are excited to offer an informative presentation by driving experts and Greenlight Simulation founders Jason Zimmerman and Josh Hurley. They will lay out the steps to acquiring a license and provide some foundational tips on how to approach behind-the-wheel driver training with your teen. See the attached flyer for more information.

PTSA MEETING followed by the Parent Education

Where: The DVHS Library

We hope you can join us, please be sure to RSVP here, spots limited.

INCLUSIVE SCHOOL WEEK - JANUARY 23-27

Dear DVHS School Community,

We hope this message finds you well and ready to embark on an incredible journey of unity and inclusion. Let us come together as a vibrant and supportive community, celebrating the beauty of our differences and embracing the shared values that unite us all.

As we approach Inclusive Week (week of Jan 22) on January 26th, we (PTSA) are thrilled to invite each and every one of you to stand together in solidarity by proudly wearing our specially designed uniform t-shirt. This meaningful initiative aims to celebrate diversity, raise awareness, and foster a community that embraces everyone.

T-Shirt Design Inspired by the Disability Pride Flag:

The design of our inclusive week t-shirt is inspired by the powerful symbolism of the Disability Pride Flag, a beacon of strength and resilience for the disability community. Each element of the flag holds a profound meaning, reflecting the diverse experiences within the community:

  • The Black Field:
  • Significance: The faded charcoal base symbolizes mourning for disabled individuals who have been victimized by ableism or lost to disability-fueled violence, abuse, negligence, and death. It also represents the collective rage and protest against the mistreatment of people with disabilities.
  • T-Shirt Color: Black or black heather, embodying the spirit of remembrance and resilience.
  • The Lightning Bolt:
  • Significance: The lightning bolt shape signifies the non-lateral lives that many disabled people lead, often requiring them to adapt themselves or their paths to navigate an inaccessible society.
  • The Colors:
  • Green: Represents sensory perception disabilities.
  • Blue: Symbolizes mental illness.
  • White: Denotes invisible disabilities and/or undiagnosed disabilities.
  • Yellow: Represents cognitive and intellectual disabilities.
  • Red: Symbolizes physical disabilities.

How You Can Participate:

To be a part of this inspiring movement, we encourage you to order your Inclusive Week t-shirt by January 9th. By wearing these shirts, we not only show our support for the disability community but also emphasize our commitment to creating an inclusive and compassionate environment within SRVUSD.

Together, we can make a powerful statement of inclusivity that resonates far beyond our school walls. Thank you for your participation and commitment to fostering a culture of acceptance and understanding.

Warm regards and happy holidays,

Inclusion and diversity Committee

DVHS Library News

Thank you, PTSA, for funding our grants! The library is so, very grateful! We will be using the funds to update our world language section, and our lit circle titles!! Wahoo!!

In this Season of Giving, please continue to think about our library! We have an Amazon Wish List and several proposals on Donors Choose where you can help support our efforts!

We also LOVE Nespresso Vertuo pods of any flavor for our teacher coffee station! Caffeinated teachers are happy teachers!

Lastly, we wish our beloved Ms. Hussenet all the best! She welcomed Charlie Hussenet into the world on 11/4/23. Both mom and Charlie are doing well (and so is dad)! And Mrs. Knapp is very excited about her bonus nephew!

Update Your Newsletter Subscription

If you or your child will be at a different school site this coming school year, please take a moment to update your email list subscriptions to make sure that you receive summer communications. This is necessary because our newsletter/email lists do not get updated until after Labor Day. Just click on the Update Profile link down in the footer of this message and check the lists that you want to be on (and uncheck any you no longer want). This is also the place to update your email address if you've changed it.
All are welcome -- parents, family members, students, teachers, staff, and community members. Choose the school or specialty lists that best suit your interests. This is a great time for current 8th-grade families to join their high school lists. High School students interested in receiving their high school newsletters are also welcome to subscribe!

Parents of 2022 Graduates: You're welcome to stay on the high school list, but if you'd prefer to stop receiving newsletters and school updates, click on the Update Profile link in the council newsletter and uncheck any lists you no longer want to hear from. We encourage you to subscribe to an Alumni Parent list or follow the DVHS PTSA on Social Media.
