Dear Saint Andrew Catholic School Families,

Happy Friday! We made it through the first whole week of the school year and are off to a great start!

We look forward to welcoming parents at Back to School/Curriculum Nights next week. The event will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evening beginning at 6:00PM in the church. Following a brief prayer and welcome from Fr. Jim, Fr. Dan, Mrs. Hall, and me, parents will be invited to move to the school building where they will visit their students’ classrooms and hear from the teachers. Each evening will conclude at 7:30PM. Please note, this event is for parents only. Parents should attend according to the following schedule:

  • PreK – 3rd Grade parents, Tuesday (8/24) evening
  • 4th – 8th Grade parents, Thursday (8/26) evening

We continue to assess and make adjustments and improvements to the Arrival and Dismissal process.  Though it is not perfect (yet), you have hopefully seen an improvement, particularly with the afternoon dismissal process.  Please help us make the process as safe and efficient.

  • Pay attention and off cell phones (this is not only school policy, it’s the law while in a school zone).
  • Please pull all the way forward in the line. We are trying to get a certain number of cars in the loading/drop off space and need each car to pull within approximately 3 feet of the car in front of theirs.
  • For safety reasons, only load or drop-off on the curb side. Please do not allow students out of the car on the street side or encourage them to get in the car from the street side.  If you need to move another child’s car seat to the driver’s side of the car in order to allow your SAS student to exit or enter on the curb side, please find time this weekend to make that change.
  • Stay in your car!  Please do not get out of your car to open doors, carry back packs, or give last minute hugs.  Doing so not only poses a safety concern, but also slows the car line process. Faculty & staff are on hand and are happy to open doors and assist your student(s).

Today, students came together in their homeroom Households. Time has been built into the schedule every Friday afternoon to allow students, along with their homeroom teachers, to come together as a “household” to pray, participate in Adoration, to read and discuss the Gospel that they will hear when they attend Mass on Sunday with their families, and to participate in other faith-enriching opportunities as a household community.  After hearing Sunday's Gospel today, students participated in narration, picture study, Lectio Divina, and discussed: why it can be difficult sometimes to follow Jesus; how we can help others to follow Jesus as Peter and the disciples did; and why Peter chose to stay with Jesus and follow him in the Gospel reading.  These are some of the questions you might also discuss as a family after hearing the Gospel at Mass this weekend.

Prayer Bags were also sent home with one student from each homeroom class today. In the Prayer Bags, families will find family devotional prayer books, a Rosary, a Saint Andrew prayer card, a journal to write a reflection, and other items. We hope the Prayer Bags will be a resource to further extend and enrich the faith and prayer life of our students and their families at home.

As always, thank you parents for the privilege of working with your precious children. I pray you all have a restful weekend!

Blessings,
Principal
