Dear Saint Andrew Catholic School Families,

We conclude another great week at SAS! I hope you all are staying cool as we finish these last few days of August!

It was wonderful to see so many parents on campus for the Back to School/Curriculum Nights this week. The faculty, staff, and administrators really enjoyed meeting all of you and sharing the plans for the upcoming school year.  If you have any questions, please contact your students’ teacher(s) directly via email.  As well, if you were unable to attend Back to School/Curriculum Night, teachers have printed information regarding their classes, expectations, how to contact them, etc. that they will be happy to share with you.

If you plan to order lunch from our lunch service, Food 4 Life, your order(s) MUST be place by 5:00PM the day before.  All orders placed after 5:00PM will not be processed and your student will not have a lunch (from Food 4 Life) available for him/her. We do have Lunchable lunches on hand for students who need a lunch but will charge $5 to the parent’s FACTS account for each Lunchable lunch provided.  To order lunch from Food 4 Life, please see the lunch information below in this newsletter.

Finally, this week we welcomed our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Alison Daley, to our SAS family.  She and her family moved here this month from California and are excited to be closer to family and friends in Texas.  Mrs. Daley’s daughter is our newest Wildcat, joining Mrs. McAvoy’s 3rd Grade class.  Mrs. Daley has been in Catholic education in various roles as a teacher, counselor, and administrator for 25 years. Please be sure to welcome Mrs. Daley when you see her on campus!

Please continue to pray for our school and for our country, especially for our military during this very difficult, challenging, and frightening time.  May God wrap His loving arms around those in harm’s way, protecting and guiding all nations to peace and safety.

May God continue to bless you and your families.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,
Principal
A Message from Assistant Principal
Alison Daly
Dear Saint Andrew Families,

I want to thank you all for such a warm welcome this past week. Words do not even begin to explain how blessed I feel to be here. I also want to thank you for your patience for my delayed arrival as my husband, three daughters and I recently moved to Texas from Southern California.

I was born and raised in San Diego (Point Loma), and I have worked in Catholic education for the past twenty-five years within the Diocese of San Diego and the Diocese of Orange. I have taught, counseled, and administrated at the elementary, secondary and college levels. My first administrative position was under Bishop Kevin Vann who many of you may remember during his time here within the Diocese of Fort Worth. I am excited to join the Saint Andrew’s community as a staff member as well as a parent.  My youngest daughter has just joined Saint Andrew’s 3rd grade class, and I have been so impressed with the children who have been kind and welcoming to her – we, as a family, are truly grateful. I look forward to serving within this amazing community, and I hope to meet all of you at some point throughout the school year.

In Christ, Alison Daley

SAS Parent Lunch Volunteers
Calling All Volunteers!

We need your help! We would like to create a schedule of volunteers to cover 20 minute lunch periods so our teachers can enjoy a short break at that time too. Below, please find a schedule of available time slots for each day. To create more consistency and reliable coverage, it would be optimal (if your schedule permits) for volunteers to choose the day(s) and time slot(s) that you think would work best for you each week and commit to that day and time for the semester. Volunteers would cover lunch only. Teachers will take their students to recess.

*Please note, in order to volunteer, you must be current with your Virtus Safe Environment Training. All volunteers must check in at the front office upon arrival and will be COVID screened before entering the classroom(s).*
Speech Screening
Next Thursday, September 2nd, Speech Pathologist, Mrs. Monica Kornblum, of Language Lions, will be on campus to provide Speech Screenings for our PK4 – 2nd Grade students.  The screenings are optional and free, take only a few minutes, and take place during the school day.  If your child is identified as one who would benefit from speech services, Mrs. Kornblum and/or a member of her team of Speech Pathologists will contact parents to discuss therapy options and cost of therapy.  Please note that the screening is at no cost, but there is a fee for speech therapy services.

If you would like for your child to participate in the free speech screening next week, please complete and sign the consent form found at the link below and return the form to your child’s teacher.  As well, please click HERE for more information about Mrs. Kornblum and Language Lions. If your child is in a grade-level higher than 2nd grade and you are concerned about his/her speech development, they may participate in the screening as well.
Catholic Schools Night at Globe Life Field
All Catholic School students, teachers, family, and friends are invited to Catholic School Night at Globe Life Field on September 18th at 6:05pm to watch the Texas Rangers take on the Chicago White Sox.

Denim Fridays
The SAS Student Council will host Denim Fridays on September 3rd, September 10th and September 17th. It will be $3 per day per student, same as last year. Students may wear jeans, spirit shirt, and shoes of choice on these days.

SAS Volunteer Spotlight
Meet the Estrada Family!

Chris and Dee have five boys, Jhonen (SAS Class of 2021), Kieran (7th), Lucien (5th), Morgan (4th) and Nevin (2nd).
Our favorite part about SAS is the zeal that the school and parish proclaim the doctrine of our Catholic faith. This is our second year at Saint Andrew, and when we first walked up those steps there was something special in the air - you could feel it.  That something is the love of Jesus Christ expressed through every administrator, teacher, parent volunteer and team member of the school.  Even as a new family everyone instantly made us feel as we have always been part of the community.  Almost every parent said to us “If you think the school is this great during Covid - just wait til we go back into the full swing of things.”  The Estradas are looking forward to being part of the full SAS experience this year!

One thing the Estradas did this summer was go to their first ever NASCAR event at the Texas Motor Speedway.  All the boys loved it - and surprisingly Mom did too.  It definitely took the movie Cars (which has been watched a million times) to a whole new level.....it was so much fun - loud but fun!

Favorite Bible Verse: John 15-17
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you.”
Adoration Hour/Day of Prayer

The Spiritual Life Committee is hosting an adoration hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament to pray for our faculty, staff, families, friars, parish and benefactors. We are calling on all parents, grandparents, parishioners, and friends to pray for our SAS Community.

No experience necessary! Just walk in and have a seat - pray, read, meditate, sit in silence or recite a rosary for 1 dedicated hour. Come to Him and release all your burdens.

When: Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 (7 am - 9 pm)

Where: Saint Andrew Sacred Heart Chapel

Need: 1 adorer every hour

Questions? Please email Dee Estrada.
Grade Level Social Chairs Needed
Do you enjoy helping people connect and are you willing to help facilitate a few events per semester?

The Home and School Association is looking for a few parents from each grade level to be Social Chairs for the grade.

We will be matching grade level chairs this weekend and training on Wednesday September 8th. All chairs will be emailed details.

Please contact, Casey Oliver, Social Chair if interested at [email protected].
Prayer Partners
Want to provide our faculty and staff with the best gift ever, that costs nothing?

Sign up to be a prayer partner. This takes just a second of your day and strengthens out faculty and staff with God's Grace. It is simple. You will be assigned a staff member and will keep them in your daily prayers. And, that staff member will be keeping you in their prayers. Who doesn't need a few extra prayers?

Many prayer enthusiasts are needed for this special ministry and parents (moms and dads), grandparents and friends are strongly encouraged to volunteer. We will partner you with a member of the school team, provide a prayer card as a visual reminder and send occasional tips for new ways to pray and deepen your faith.

If you are called to volunteer, please email Gina Guirola by Friday, September 3rd.
Spiritual Life Committee Marian Statue Program
Home and School’s Spiritual Life Committee at SAS offers two blessed statues to its families, a Statue of Rosa Mystica and an Immaculate Heart of Mary Statue.

Each week, from a Wednesday afternoon to the following Wednesday morning, two families have the opportunity to take one of these statues home to use as a source of inspiration, prayer and reflection. The tote bag containing the statue also contains suggested prayers. This special tradition will hopefully be one full of meaning and faith for each of you. Pick up and drop off location is the SAS Front Office.

Sign up is ongoing through the school year.
Thank you to Colleen Shutt and Mary Kathryn Mallick for hosting preschool popsicles in the park. It was a wonderful community event for the youngest members of our community. It was special to see so many families and their children having fun and visiting!
