Next Tuesday, October 5^th, students will participate in the October Faith Families Assembly, as we introduce the Virtue for the month of October, the Virtue of Studiousness. More information regarding the Faith Families lesson your students will be participating in that day will be communicated via email to parents Tuesday afternoon.

We will have our first Pep Rally of the school year next Friday, October 8^th at 2:15PM in the gym. Our cheerleaders are ready to get the excitement going and we look forward to our Wildcats going a little wild! Parents are welcome to attend.

The First Quarter ends next Friday, October 8, 2021. Please be sure to check your students’ academic progress via FACTS and contact the teacher with any questions. First quarter report cards will be given to parents during the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Earlier today, I sent an email communication to all families regarding Parent/Teacher Conferences coming up on Thursday, October 14^th. The email included a SignUpGenius (SUG) for parents to sign-up for a conference time. Parents can choose to conference in person or virtually via TEAMS. Please be sure to indicate your mode preference for meeting in the comments section on the SUG after you have selected a time. Parents who are unable to schedule a time to conference on that day should make arrangements with their students’ homeroom teacher to meet some time the following week, October 18-22. Information and the SUG link for conferences can also be found below in this newsletter.

We are very excited to be kicking off fall with the annual SAS Fall Fest next Saturday, October 9, 2021. This year’s Fall Fest is being held on a Saturday, not Sunday, and promises fun for the whole family! The hours of operation are shorter as well, 11:00AM - 3:00PM. We will be having several favorite food options available in the Food Court, as well as other Fall Fest traditions such as the Haunted House, the 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament, and of course, the Fall Fest Raffle. In 2017, Bishop Olson shared the diocesan mission statement for Catholic schools with all diocesan educators during our annual Diocesan Inservice. The mission statement (https://catholicschoolsfwdioc.org/our-mission-vision) has since served to guide the direction and focus of the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth.

In following this mission of Catholic education, the faculty and staff at Saint Andrew Catholic School believes we are called to do more to teach our students to think clearly and carefully, distinguish between truth and opinion, and to communicate articulately and eloquently. We must form students who are able to recognize and understand Truth, Goodness, and Beauty in the world around them. To fulfill this mission, SAS began a transformation of our educational methods and curriculum to a classical education approach.

What is Classical Education? Classical education begins with a view of the human person as created in the image of God and created to share in his divine life. This understanding of the human person leads to a formation, which is suited to the development of a child toward personal sanctification and participation in Judeo-Christian culture. Classical education is most naturally and completely done in a Catholic school where is can be sustained and perfected by the sacramental life of the Church.

Some of the steps we have taken so far at SAS toward that implementation include:

• Curriculum Resources added that align with classical pedagogy

• Professional Development-Our faculty & staff have attended and will continue to attend various professional development opportunities and trainings to better equip them in the implementation of this curriculum. As well, we will continue working with The University of Dallas as they provided excellent professional development to our faculty & staff during our August inservice and will continue to do so at various inservices throughout the year.

Please see the SignUpGenius (SUG) link below for Parent/Teacher Conferences which will take place on Thursday, October 14, 2021, 1:00PM - 7:00PM. Parents will have the option of choosing to conference with their child’s homeroom teacher either in person or virtually via Microsoft TEAMS. Please indicate your preference for meeting in the comments section after you have selected a time slot. Also, please be sure to read the information and directions on the SUG carefully. During the conference, parents will receive their child’s First Quarter Report Card (parents who conference virtually will receive report card electronically) and teachers will be discussing your child’s progress thus far. Parents who are unable to conference on this day should contact their child’s homeroom teacher. Alternate conference times will be scheduled the week of October 18-22.

Private School Interscholastic Association (PSIA) is an extracurricular academic program for elementary and middle school students. Participating in PSIA provides an exciting opportunity for private school students to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas.

PSIA is the most comprehensive academic extracurricular programs in the nation for students in grades 1 -8. Students who participate in PSIA will:

Students who participate in PSIA meet to practice with their “coaches” for 45 minutes, after school every other week or weekly leading up to the District Meet, which takes place on a Saturday the end of March. Students who qualify in their category/categories at the District Meet will go on to compete at the State Meet in April, which is typically held at TCU.

We are so excited to have parent volunteers back on campus! Please remember that Safe Environment training is required for everyone volunteering this school year for field trips, class parties, Fall Festival, etc. For a list of LIVE sessions, to set up a Virtus online profile and to begin registration for one of the sessions, or to take a renewal session (required very two years) please click HERE. You may attend a session at any of the parishes in the Diocese.
