Dear SAS Families,

What a wonderful time last Saturday at the annual SAS Fall Festival! Yes, it was very windy and warm, but it was so exciting to see what seemed like the entire SAS community come together for an afternoon of games, food, and FUN! We are especially thankful for our Fall Festival Chairs, Ginger Baker and Meghann Cornelius, and to our Raffle Chair, Rebecca White. Thank you as well to our many volunteers who gave of their time and talent running games, painting faces, making sno-cones, refereeing the 3 on 3 games, selling tickets, donating food, and so much more. And of course, many thanks to all you for your continued support of our Saint Andrew Catholic School!
It was so great to see so many of you yesterday during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Parents received First Quarter Report Cards during conferences and report cards were emailed as well. If you were unable to attend or schedule a conference and wish to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact the teacher directly to schedule a date/time. Whether you conferenced in person or virtually with your child’s teacher, we are grateful for the opportunity to connect with you as we work together to continue to form our students spiritually and academically in Truth, Goodness, & Beauty.

After much positive feedback following last Monday’s temporary change in the morning arrival procedure, we are happy to announce what we hope will become a permanent change to the Morning Arrival Process for those parents utilizing the front drop-off only. We have organized a process that will accommodate both parents who prefer to utilize the drop-off line and those who prefer to park. Please find the details and a map below in this newsletter and be sure to read it thoroughly. We need everyone’s help to make sure this is a safe situation for all. If students (and parents) are not adhering to the procedure guidelines, we will move back to our current morning drop off procedure as the safety of our students is our primary concern. We will tryout this new process beginning Monday morning.

I pray you all have a wonderful weekend and are able to get out and enjoy this beautiful fall weather! We look forward to welcoming our Wildcats back on Monday!

Saint Andrew, Pray for Us!

Blessings,
Principal
New Morning Arrival Procedures
Start Monday!
We will be modifying the front morning dismissal procedure beginning Monday, October 18thThe back morning dismissal procedure will remain the same.

Please refer to the map and keep in mind these key points:

  • PK3 parents should continue to use the West Entrance of the Parish Hall where they will meet a staff member to drop off their student.   **No Change**

  • PK4 – Kindergarten students and their siblings should continue to use the back parking lot for drop off.  **No Change**

  • 1st – 8th Grade students without PK4 – Kindergarten siblings should use the front parking lot for drop off, with two choices for drop off:

*Option 1: Carline - Vehicles enter from Stadium, then turning east on Dryden. Enter the parking lot and proceed through the carline only using lane 1 (the lane closest to the athletic fields).

*Option 2: Park and unload – Vehicles enter from Stadium, then turn east on Dryden. Enter the parking lot and park in the spaces directly across from the church or in the spaces in lane 4 (the lane closest to the street).

  • NO parking along the south curb on Dryden (across the street from the front of the school).

  • If using Option 2, all students should proceed to the sidewalk and to one of the two crosswalks.  Faculty/staff on duty will direct/guide students safely across the street. Parents may walk students across the street but will not be permitted to walk students into the school or to their classrooms.

Private School Interscholastic Association (PSIA)
Private School Interscholastic Association (PSIA) is an extracurricular academic program for elementary and middle school students. Participating in PSIA provides an exciting opportunity for private school students to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas.
PSIA is the most comprehensive academic extracurricular programs in the nation for students in grades 1 -8. Students who participate in PSIA will:
  • Refine mental aptitudes
  • Affirm self-worth
  • Find new excitement in learning
  • Develop teamwork and a sense of fair play
  • Experience a sense of pride and dignity
  • Appreciate that rules, consistently applied, create order and discipline
  • Experience the joy of achieving in a wholesome environment
  • Foster self-discipline and perseverance
  • Achieve recognition for academic excellence
  • Make better choices of after-school activities
  • Enjoy camaraderie with students from other schools
  • Receive tangible awards for his/her academic ability
  • HAVE FUN!

Some of the contest categories PSIA offers includes:

  • Creative Writing
  • Dictionary Skills
  • Impromptu Speaking
  • Listening Skills
  • Maps, Graphs, & Charts
  • Mathematics
  • Number Sense
  • On-Site Drawing
  • Ready Writing
  • Spelling
  • Storytelling
  • Vocabulary
Students who participate in PSIA meet to practice with their “coaches” for 45 minutes, after school every other week or weekly leading up to the District Meet, which takes place on a Saturday the end of March. Students who qualify in their category/categories at the District Meet will go on to compete at the State Meet in April, which is typically held at TCU.

We are considering offering PSIA at Saint Andrew and still have time to organize teams this year! However, we would need Parent Volunteers to coach small groups (4-5) of students in specific categories each week or every other week and would also need a parent to volunteer to be the PSIA Coordinator. Please click on the link below to complete a brief survey to help us gauge interest in participating in PSIA.

Virtue of the Month
Students in grades Kindergarten – 8 completed the first month of the Virtues in Practice program for the 2021-2022 school year. In September, the virtue of HOPE was highlighted - trusting in God's loving plan. One student from each homeroom was recognized by their teacher as the student who best exemplified the virtue of Hope.

The virtue of the month for October is studiousness - seeking knowledge to grow closer to Truth.
Congratulations to our September Award Recipients.
