Dear Saint Andrew Catholic School Community,
We have made it to the conclusion of another busy week at SAS!
After the long Labor Day weekend, we returned on Tuesday rested and ready for the week. Wednesday brought a little more excitement (and challenge) as our 4th – 8th grade students, teachers, and administrators had to wait out the severe storm in the church for a good hour following Mass. The students were wonderful, using that time to pray the Rosary-even more special on our Blessed Mother’s birthday-and to sing some Praise & Worship music together. Once we were safely able to move back to the school building, we found that our internet and phones were down, and they remained down until about 4:15PM that afternoon. An interesting day to say the least!
On Thursday morning, we had our first Faith Families Assembly of the school year! While we hope to eventually come together as a group in the gym, yesterday’s morning assembly was held virtually with morning prayers, pledge, and announcements, followed by Mr. Vanasse and I presenting the virtue of the month, the virtue of Hope, and discussing the saints who particularly emulated this virtue. After the virtual assembly, students in their classrooms further discussed the virtue of Hope, how we live this virtue through prayer, and the different types of prayer. Students made prayer cubes and are encouraged to consider various forms of prayer in their daily lives. Finally, we introduced the service project for the month, which focuses on assisting a Catholic school in Louisiana, Saint Dominic Catholic School, which was damaged by the recent hurricane. Over the next few weeks, students are asked to consider contributing small donations of change (coins), maybe from allowances they have earned at home. Plastic collection containers will be in each classroom next week. We will keep you updated of our progress!
Tomorrow is Patriot Day, observed on September 11th each year as we remember all those killed in the attack on our country 20 years ago. Please God, keep all of our patriots and our country in thought and prayer, especially on this somber anniversary.
Reminder: Next Friday, September 17th is an Early Dismissal Day, with dismissal at 12:00PM. There will be NO Lunch service, so students staying for After School Care must bring a packed lunch. After School Care will be available, 12PM – 6PM.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings,

Meet the Makens Family!
Bill and Adrienne have three girls: Claire (7) is in 2nd grade, Avery (5) started Kindergarten, and Sydney is 3 and cannot wait to join her big sisters at SAS!
|
|
One of our favorite things about SAS is the community! Claire had her first year at SAS last year, and we could not have found a more welcoming group of people. From the teachers and staff to the parents, there is truly something special here, and we are so blessed to be a part of it! Adrienne also participates in the Monday rosary group, which is a wonderful way to start to the school week.
They have had the opportunity to take the family for an extended time last winter in Colorado to introduce the girls to skiing. It is now a great family activity that all of them can enjoy, while appreciating the beauty of the outdoors and God's creation.
Our favorite aspect of the Catholic Faith is the strength and power of prayer, and teaching Catholic prayers to our children to bond as a family in Jesus' name.

Spiritual Life Committee Marian Statue Program
|
|
Home and School’s Spiritual Life Committee at SAS offers two blessed statues to its families, a Statue of Rosa Mystica and an Immaculate Heart of Mary Statue.
Each week, from a Wednesday afternoon to the following Wednesday morning, two families have the opportunity to take one of these statues home to use as a source of inspiration, prayer and reflection. The tote bag containing the statue also contains suggested prayers. This special tradition will hopefully be one full of meaning and faith for each of you. Pick up and drop off location is the SAS Front Office.
Sign up is ongoing through the school year.
|
|
Please continue to monitor your children daily for any symptoms of COVID-19 or other contagious illnesses prior to coming on campus.
