Benefits of Walking
Weight loss and maintenance exercise option- Walking is a exercise option that doesn’t require any equipment, doesn’t need a particular location, and only requires at least 30 minutes a day. Consistency with walking can also be a great aid in weight loss.
Increases energy- Daily walking for at least 30 minutes a day to the point it increases your heart rate and gets blood flowing releases endorphins is going to raise your energy level. Good cardiovascular exercises will strengthen your heart and give you more stamina.
Improve mood and strengthen heart– Walking forces the body to release chemicals called endorphins which triggers a positive feeling. Walking also increases heart rate and blood pressure leading to better efficiency of the heart.
Tips to increase daily Walking
Start or join a walking group before or after school.
Increase mileage gradually and make your focus starting off on simply consistent walking for 30 minutes.
Listen to music for motivation and better focus if walking alone.
Set a weekly goal and aim to surpass that goal every week.
Choose scenic locations to prevent boredom and to keep the body from becoming use to a certain routine.
Be sure to warm-up, cooldown, stretch, and HYDRATE!
District-Wide Pink Walk
Friday, October 25 each MPSD elementary school will host a Breast Cancer Awareness walk on their campus where all staff and students will be asked to wear pink.
