Spring Break Coming Soon! | |
On February 27, our school board approved March 17th and May 25th as our additional snow makeup days. The board also voted to not make up one of the snow days. Please review our updated calendar which meets the state minimum of 165 student contact days and remember to update your calendars that Friday, March 17th and Thursday, May 25th will now be student contact days instead of the originally scheduled teacher workshop days. We understand families may have previously scheduled appointments, vacations and other events, please report your child's attendance for these days through the principal's office or on the Parent Portal as normal.
This has been a tough winter, and unfortunately we may still have inclement weather in the future. I appreciate everyone's continued cooperation as we navigate the rest of this school year.
Jamie Boelter, NLS Superintendent

High School Happenings
Last weekend, NLS Robotics, aka. Toolcats team #3276, competed in the Lake Superior Regional compeition in Duluth last weekend at the Duluth Entertainment Event Center. Robotics teams are challenged to fundraise, design a team "brand," hone skills, and of course build and program an industrial-size robot to navigate a field game against competitors with limited resources. Check out the Toolcats team page, here.
Student Art Exhibition - Coming Soon! During the month of April there will be a student art exhibition in St. Cloud at the Paramount Galleries. Ten art students will be representing NLS with prizes awarded to best in 2D and 3D art. Kids also have a chance to win art supplies for their schools too. More details to come.
Two high school art students have entered the Doodle for Google Contest. Good luck to Adriana Behl and Genevieve Baumann! This annual contest encourages students to think about a theme, then imagine and create a Google Doodle — a piece of art that incorporates the letters G-o-o-g-l-e — based on how the prompt inspires them. This year’s theme is “I am grateful for…”. Winners have a chance to win scholarships, school supplies, and Google merchandise.

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way. Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from April 4 to April 6 at the HS/MS Media Center. The Fair will be open during the annual Sloppy Joe Supper and Lions Talent Show on Tuesday, April 4 from 4:30 – 7:30. The fair will be open during the school day on April 5 and 6.
This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
