The New London-Spicer Educational Foundation Awarded $2,500 to Mrs. Kari Lindquist-Weber, High School Art Instructor for her grant titled, "Mural Artist-in-Residence."
This grant will allow the High School Visual Arts Department to hire freelance graphic designer and mural artist, Kristin Allen, as a resident artist for one week during the 2023-24 school year. During this time, a mural in the Performing Arts Center Commons will be completed that celebrates a variety of programming offered at NLS. The theme of this work will be Fine Arts, with graphics developed by students. New London-Spicer High School's Studio Art Class will be involved in the project and students Genevieve Baumann and Aleigha Gehrke have agreed to be student leaders. The large gray wall by the Middle School/High School cascading staircase will soon highlight and promote the Fine Arts Department to the public!
If you would like to support other classroom grant projects, you can do so online: nls.k12.mn.us/foundationdonation or by mail: New London-Spicer Educational Foundation
PO BOX 58, New London, MN 56273. New London-Spicer Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization with 501c3 status.

Wildcat Activities
Wildcat girls tennis is heading to state! Congratulations to the Wildcats on winning the Section 6A team championship. The team will play on Tuesday, October 24 and Wednesday, October 25. The State Tennis Tournament will be held at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis. For more information, please visit: https://www.mshsl.org/tickets
Good luck to our other fall sports teams as they head into sections starting the week of October 23.
Every week, the activities department recognizes a student as our Wildcat of the Week. These students are recognized not only based on their accomplishments, but also how they display the R.O.A.R principles - Respect, Ownership, Attitude, and Responsibility. Our most recent Wildcat of the Week was Emersyn Hagen (Cross Country).

New London-Spicer YES (Youth Eco Solutions) group consists of 7th and 8th grade students and their advisor Mrs. Paffrath. Last week, they took a field trip to Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center for their fall kick off event. They had perfect weather for this outdoor fun!
Our 6th graders recently completed a unit on Earth systems and how the four spheres (Bio, Geo, Hydro, and Atmo) interact with each other. As their assessment, they created a model demonstrating their understanding of those interactions and how it was represented in nature. Our students took that information and ran with it - creating amazing models, all unique in their own ways! "I was super proud of them," gleamed Ms. Manska, "I wanted to share some pictures of their models to show how much hard work and effort they put in!"
