The New London-Spicer Educational Foundation Awarded $2,500 to Mrs. Kari Lindquist-Weber, High School Art Instructor for her grant titled, "Mural Artist-in-Residence."

This grant will allow the High School Visual Arts Department to hire freelance graphic designer and mural artist, Kristin Allen, as a resident artist for one week during the 2023-24 school year. During this time, a mural in the Performing Arts Center Commons will be completed that celebrates a variety of programming offered at NLS. The theme of this work will be Fine Arts, with graphics developed by students. New London-Spicer High School's Studio Art Class will be involved in the project and students Genevieve Baumann and Aleigha Gehrke have agreed to be student leaders. The large gray wall by the Middle School/High School cascading staircase will soon highlight and promote the Fine Arts Department to the public!

Wildcat Activities

Wildcat girls tennis is heading to state! Congratulations to the Wildcats on winning the Section 6A team championship. The team will play on Tuesday, October 24 and Wednesday, October 25. The State Tennis Tournament will be held at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis. For more information, please visit: https://www.mshsl.org/tickets

Good luck to our other fall sports teams as they head into sections starting the week of October 23.

Every week, the activities department recognizes a student as our Wildcat of the Week. These students are recognized not only based on their accomplishments, but also how they display the R.O.A.R principles - Respect, Ownership, Attitude, and Responsibility. Our most recent Wildcat of the Week was Emersyn Hagen (Cross Country).

Middle School - Principal Dr. Jenn Fuchs

Beginning on October 24, our Middle School will have After School Tutoring for any subject from 3:10-4:00PM on Tuesdays in Ms. Ludwig's Room. This is a free service. Parents are responsible for their child(ren)'s transportation. Reach out to our office with questions.

Reminders: Picture retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, October 24.

The end of the quarter is October 27, so please make sure to ask your child to check their schedule for their quarter 2 classes.

New London-Spicer YES (Youth Eco Solutions) group consists of 7th and 8th grade students and their advisor Mrs. Paffrath. Last week, they took a field trip to Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center for their fall kick off event. They had perfect weather for this outdoor fun!

Our 6th graders recently completed a unit on Earth systems and how the four spheres (Bio, Geo, Hydro, and Atmo) interact with each other. As their assessment, they created a model demonstrating their understanding of those interactions and how it was represented in nature. Our students took that information and ran with it - creating amazing models, all unique in their own ways! "I was super proud of them," gleamed Ms. Manska, "I wanted to share some pictures of their models to show how much hard work and effort they put in!"

Prairie Woods Fire Safety Week

Thank you to the Spicer and New London Fire Departments for helping create another amazing Fire Safety Week at Prairie Woods Elementary School. Our students and staff learned a lot and had a ton of fun too! We greatly appreciate everyone that volunteered their time.

We had an awesome 3 on 3 league this year. In 2022 we had 30 teams and this year we had 49! It was so fun to see so many communities come together under our roof! Congrats to our 3 on 3 Champions in each division!
