Happy mid-January! The weather outside may be frightful, but that makes it the perfect time to curl up inside with a good book. Families play a powerful role in building lifelong readers. When students see adults reading at home—books, articles, recipes, anything—they learn that reading matters. Thank you for modeling this every day in simple, meaningful ways.

January has been full of teaching, learning, and winter activities, and we are now also ramping up for our Spelling Bee. Study lists and information should have come home with every child this past week. Didn’t receive them? Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

There is so much great work happening across WRVES—from the innovative learning in BES Kindergarten and ECO at both BES and SRES.

As we head into the weekend we are preparing for some significant winter weather starting with an arctic blast tonight and into Saturday with dangerously cold windchills of 20-40 degrees below zero. Sunday into Monday we are expected to get a significant amount of snow. It is still a little early to have solid predictions but we have proactively moved our scheduled event with Sweethearts and Heroes to start on Tuesday instead of Monday so that any delays or cancellations that may take place don’t interfere with our work. These couple days of intense winter weather will set the stage nicely for our winter outing trips scheduled to take place on Thursday the 29th. Please make sure that permission slips are completed and returned to the school by Tuesday January 27th.
