California is again grappling with a dangerous wildfire season. Many of us have family, friends and colleagues who have suffered losses. As firefighters continue to battle the blazes, I am writing to update you on Visit California’s response efforts.
As of this morning, three major fires are burning in Shasta, Mariposa and Riverside counties, with minimal containment. Air quality issues are impacting destinations across the state, including in Yosemite where the valley is closed. With triple-digit temperatures and high winds in the forecast, the worst may be yet to come.
Visit California has activated its Crisis Response Plan and is working with partners in all affected areas to communicate up-to-date information with visitors. All 13 of our international offices are monitoring global media coverage and working directly with travel trade to disseminate the latest on impacted areas. Our social media agency is monitoring the conversation across social channels, and we are in close contact with the Governor’s Office, the Office of Emergency Services and others.
Please continue to share any on-the-ground news you may have to ensure we are providing the most accurate information to travelers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is affected by these tragedies and the first responders who are fighting to protect lives and property.
