Fire Adapted Communities

The Tahoe Network of Fire Adapted Communities (FAC) is a program designed to help residents and visitors prepare for wildfire. This multi-agency and community collaboration helps residents take individual action to collectively reduce their neighborhood’s risk

from wildfire.

Did You Know?

Spring is the perfect time to start creating

Defensible Space around your home.

Once the snow melts, raking up last year's leaf

litter in the Ember Resistant Zone (0-5ft) and the

Lean, Clean & Green Zone (5-30ft) can help keep

your home safer.

In addition, removing dead plants and any other types of

flammable material is crucial.

The goal is to limit the dry fuel embers could ignite

if (and when) wildfire gets close.

Home Hardening is preparing your home itself for the real possibility of embers from a nearby fire.

Experts agree that pairing Defensible Space and Home Hardening greatly increases your home's chance of surviving the next wildfire.

Taking these steps can also result in discounts on home insurance by making the property more fire adapted.

Tahoe's neighborhood Chipping Services are funded through the Bureau of Land Management.

This project was funded due to the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, which authorized the sale of BLM administered federal lands within a designated boundary in the Las Vegas Valley and required proceeds to be used on projects to fund federal, state and local projects that benefit communities and public lands.
