Looking Back At 2023

Firewise USA News

Golden Oaks Mobile Home Park in Ojai, CA has become the first Mobile Home Park to become a Firewise USA recognized site in Ventura County, and the second neighborhood in the Ojai Valley. Congrats to the residents for dedicating all the hard work to protect their neighborhood from wildfire. In this picture, Mayra and Natasha from the Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council are presenting the Certificate of Recognition to the resident committee, ironically during a downpour of rain in the Ojai Valley just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Other Announcements

In the midst of the 6th Anniversary of the Thomas Fire, lets touch preparing for possible Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) during wind events this winter.

PREPARE FOR POWER EMERGENCIES

1. Always follow the direction of local law enforcement and firefighters for evacuations and road safety. Know about your city or county’s emergency plans and sign up for available emergency notifications from local agencies.

2. Keep basic necessities on hand — from medical prescriptions to canned goods. Keep a supply of essentials in an easy-to-access location, so you can get to them quickly, even in the dark.

3. If you depend on electrically powered medical equipment, have a backup power source. You may be eligible for SCE’s Medical Baseline Allowance program, which provides electricity at the lowest available rate. Learn about the program and how to apply at sce.com/mbl.

4. To get up to date information during power outages, including emergency as well as maintenance and rotating outages, bookmark sce.com/outagemap on your computer and download the MySCE mobile app on your phone.

Give Back for a Bigger Impact

Please consider a contribution to our organization so that we can continue providing free services to the community and prepare as much of Ventura County as possible for impending wildfire. We are not safe until all of our communities and neighborhoods are safe. There are many homeowners and communities in Ventura County who simply cannot afford to do the work themselves; it is crucial for all of us to be able to help those less fortunate. Your support will allow us to continue providing free assessments, chipping services, brush clearance, educational workshops, and so much more. We do not take this responsibility lightly and thank you for entrusting us with your support.
