About This Conference

This conference is designed for anyone with an interest in wildland fire in the Appalachian Region.  It promises to be unique in that it will be a conference about wildland fire in the Appalachians that is held in the Appalachians.  This event is not a research symposium and it's not a managers meeting-it's both!  The objective of the Consortium of Appalachian Fire Managers and Scientists and the Association for Fire Ecology is for fire managers and researchers to learn from each other so they can better understand problems specific to the highly diverse Appalachian Mountains and to work together to solve those problems.

Early Bird Registration
Early Bird Registration ends July 9.  Registrations are already flying in!  Join the flock and Register Soon to take advantage of our lowest conference fees available.  All registrations includes an offer for a free one year membership in AFE.  Are you a student?  There are additional discounts available for students and student volunteers, as well as funding available through the JFSP TREE Travel grant program.  TREE grants are due Aug. 15.

We will have 3 Concurrent sessions which will include a variety of topics focused specifically on wildland fire in the Appalachians. Over 40 invited speakers will discuss research updates and management experiences.  Researchers will discuss plant and wildlife ecology, fire history, invasives, season of burning, and other topics.  Managers will share experiences on how to apply fire to the landscape, how to work with media and the general public, and updates to fire management tools such as smoke prediction models, LANDFIRE, FRCC, and IFT-DSS.  A highlight will be success stories for programs such as the Fire Learning Network, Prescribed Fire Councils, and interagency cooperation.  See our website for a Complete Program Listing, including all speakers and full presentation titles.
