How YOU Can Help Water Quality in Puget Sound
With the large amount of precipitation that Washington gets and the close proximity to numerous bodies of water and watersheds, it is easy for contaminants to end up in the water. Most drains; on roadways, in yards, and other places drain straight to the nearest body of water. Although it gets rid of water and puts it where it belongs, things like oils, fertilizers, and dog poop can get washed away with it too. This causes bad water quality and affects the species living in and around the body of water.
Numerous creatures in the Puget Sound, such as clams, filter the water around them to catch food. If the water quality is bad however, it causes harm to the shellfish as well as humans if they consume seafood that has been contaminated. You can help keep our water clean by taking your car to a car wash or cleaning it on grass, fixing car leaks, picking up dog poop, and not using harmful chemicals, fertilizers, or pesticides in your yard or house.
For more information, pop into the Harbor WildWatch Marine Life Center open Wednesday-Sunday 11-6!
Harbor WildWatch also monitors water quality in Puget Sound via our monthly Blue Water Task Force report! Keep an eye on our newsletter for those results each month.

Bruce and Beth Morse, local community members, are proud supporters of Harbor WildWatch.
Quote from Bruce and Beth: “We are thrilled to support Harbor WildWatch through our donations. The work that Lindsey and her team do for our community and its visitors is truly invaluable. Whether we're assisting with a beach survey, attending a 'Cocktails & Fishtails' event, or visiting the Marine Life Center, we always leave with smiles on our faces and a greater appreciation for the beauty of Puget Sound.
