Our 2025 Youth Mini Grant Awardees have been busy this summer putting on incredible programming for local youth.

Spotlight: Project Peace

During the week of June 16 – 21, 30 youth from the Wilkinsburg community and congregations worked alongside nine youth from a Be the Neighbor Mission Camp from Chicago to learn skills and beautify the Wilkinsburg community thanks to the work of the Wilkinsburg Sanctuary Project for Peace and Project Peace partners. Youth were paid a stipend to work on one of six teams - art, carpentry, clean out, gardening and cooking, landscaping and cooking, and media.

The youth and program were even featured on CBS News (click to watch)!

We are proud to support this program through our Youth Mini-Grant initiative with funding support from the Howard & Nell E. Miller Foundation.

We are thrilled to share that our very own Moses Workman, Director of Operations at the WCDC has been named one of the New Pittsburgh Courier's 2025 Men of Excellence! The New Pittsburgh Courier Men of Excellence Awards celebrate local African American men who inspire others through their vision and leadership, exceptional achievements, and participation in community service.

A lifelong resident of Wilkinsburg, Moses also serves as a member of the Wilkinsburg Borough Council. His professional background also includes working with global leaders including Google and several prominent banks in the Pittsburgh region, where he contributed to both customer service excellence, project management, and digital engagement strategies.

Moses will be honored during a dinner with his fellow inductees on Friday, August 22nd. Please join us in congratulating Moses on this achievement!

Save the date and plan to join us in October at the Train Station for a hands-on community resource fair designed to help Wilkinsburg residents access the tools and support you need to strengthen your homes, finances, and future.

Representatives from local organizations will be on-site to connect you to valuable programs and services and will guide you through applications in real time – including opening a bank account, applying for property tax reductions, creating a will, and securing funds for critical home repairs.

Plus! Fun Fall activities for kids.
