Dear Friends,

On April 22nd, the Anne Springs Close Greenway celebrated 25 years of conservation, education and creating healthy communities through outdoor recreation. As Anne Springs Close reflects on the opening of the Greenway all those years ago, she remarks that if you walk deep into the trails today, it is almost as if you have traveled back in time before the development in our region took off. Close your eyes when you’re out exploring the Greenway, and your senses come alive and are enveloped with nature all around you.

The world as we know it today is immeasurably different than the weeks and days passed. Stay-at-home orders, staggering declines in businesses small and large, and an invisible enemy have turned life upside down for our community. But when we simply close our eyes, we can transport ourselves to a place that connects us and brings us peace and comfort - - time spent in the great outdoors.
It is not common knowledge, but the Greenway currently runs an annual operating deficit of more than $1,000,000. This is normally subsidized by public events, summer camps, as well as other Leroy Springs & Co. businesses such as Springs Golf and FLYERS afterschool childcare. Many of these sources of revenue have been severely impacted by the closures and social distancing guidelines. Some of our programs will rebound, while others will continue to be impacted for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, this extreme financial impact has the potential to affect the programming and operations on the Greenway in the long term. We are doing everything we can to protect areas of our work such as education and conservation, trail maintenance, our health and wellness initiatives, and fulfilling our commitment to making the Greenway accessible to all through financial assistance for children and families in need. Each of these programs are essential to our core mission.
Right now, there are many charities and non-profit organizations that need your support. Please help the local food banks and other agencies providing urgent needs to the many that have been affected by this unprecedented event. As we begin to heal and reopen, we will need your help as well so we can make it through this difficult time and still provide educational opportunities to children and maintain the quality of your experience on the Greenway. Please consider making a donation, encourage others to get connected and spread the word about the Greenway. Your support will help us to weather the storm and ensure that we can be here to serve you for another 25 years.
While communities begin to reopen, and we discover truly what our new normal will be, the Anne Springs Close Greenway is here to inspire and foster new generations of environmental stewards and outdoor enthusiasts as we always have. Together, we are resilient and can overcome any of the challenges we face. Will you help us by making a gift today?

We thank you for being a part of the Greenway family, and for your support.

Wishing you the very best,
John Gordon
