World Rural Landscapes Principles: Sustainably Manage Rural Landscapes and Their Heritage Values
This article will consider the need to manage rural landscapes and their heritage values sustainably. In Australia, "sustainable management" has usually referred to private lands. For 30 years, Landcare has been one of the driving forces behind this movement. This has spawned other groups to practice organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farming. Around 10% of Australia’s population lives in rural or remote areas. These comparatively small communities – largely farmers and Indigenous land managers – currently steward most of the country.

Europe Day Manifesto on Cultural Heritage just released

On May 9 2020, on the occasion of Europe Day which this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and the launch of the process of European integration, members of the European Heritage Alliance launched the Europe Day Manifesto ‘ Cultural Heritage: A Powerful Catalyst for the Future of Europe. In keeping with our theme, it has a powerful statement on cultural landscapes.


Participants are to come up with online solutions to help manage, safeguard and monitor natural and cultural heritage using Copernicus  and  Galileo data. A special award will be presented for managing impacts of Covid-19.
