Growing a Better Tomorrow for All Children, Together
Every day, we help positive childhood experiences take root. This year’s Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month theme is Growing a Better Tomorrow for All Children, Together. This is the second year CAP Month has taken place during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the Kansas chapter for Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) America, KCSL continues to encourage you to follow social distancing practices and local regulations during pinwheel planting events and other CAP Month activities. Consider utilizing social media and virtual platforms to raise awareness or finding creative and safe ways to support local prevention programs. There are lots of ways for you to get involved in #GrowingBetterTogether!
Whatever you’re planning this month, we’re here to support you. Check out our 2021 toolkit for tips and resources.
Note on messaging: Using a community garden metaphor along with the Pinwheels for Prevention®, the campaign reframes the way child abuse prevention is viewed. The pinwheel is a symbol of healthy childhoods and should not be equated to 'negative' numbers such as deaths, victims, etc.
In February, we hosted a webinar to highlight different tools and brainstorm ideas for CAP Month. If you missed it you can watch it on KCSL’s YouTube channel.
KCSL offers a variety of online prevention trainings throughout April, all of which are free and open to anyone interested. If you want to schedule a training for your group or have questions, please contact Rachelle Soden at
Although April 1 was National Wear Blue Day for CAP Month, many partners are hosting local Wear Blue Day events every Friday throughout the month to continue raising awareness. Use #WearBlueDay2021 and #GrowingBetterTogether on social media and follow KCSL on Facebook and Twitter for updates all month long.

PCA America will host Digital Advocacy Day April 21. Contact your elected officials and spread the word about policy change that is vital to the well-being of children and their families. Learn More.

We want to see what your community is doing for CAP Month! If you organize any events, activities, trainings, letters to the editor, proclamations or anything else, please let us know. Send details and any pictures to We like to include this information in our Kansas Child Abuse Prevention Month Recap that we send to PCA America as well as state and federal offices.
