Dear Christian Warriors:
Our brother Ian in California has a key insight from the Book of Ezekiel on how the Lord will seek us out. Question: Will you let Him find you?
“Woe unto the shepherds of Israel that have fed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the sheep?”
“For thus saith the Lord God: Behold, here am I, and I will search for My sheep, and seek them out. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are separated, so will I seek out My sheep; and I will deliver them out of all places whither they have been scattered in the day of clouds and thick darkness.”
“And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God….” Ezekiel 34:2, 12, 23
For me, this is a very comforting chapter in a book filled with God’s remonstrations against Israel and the nations. After thirty-three chapters of telling all that they will fall from their positions of power, He reminds us that he loves us. God will not just call His sheep (us). He will seek us out. Whatever the circumstances, God will deliver us to our own land, feed us and give us rest. He will cast down our worldly leaders and provide the one true shepherd who will lead us from then on.
The key to the good outcome is not to allow the worldly powers to lead us astray. The worldly leaders will do everything they can using their words instead of God’s Word to cause us to fall away through distraction, to be fooled by worldly things, or, worst of all, by choice. We need to do the things that keep us on the good road, however hard it may be.
The chapters of Exodus that detail the interactions between Pharoah and God (via Moses) give a relevant example for us to think about. The leader of the nation is given the opportunity to let Israel go (obey God) time after time. With each plague, Pharoah either chose not to believe or repented then hardened his heart against the word of God despite ever-worsening outcomes. The story is not that God hardened Pharoah’s heart (though this is reflected in the text). Even after Israel has left Egypt, Pharoah chases them to the Red Sea.
God is showing us the sin pattern of those who value worldly power over the Word of God. God is showing us how hard it is to let go of the world. Like modern leaders who tell us to fear what they fear instead of fearing God, to obey them instead of obeying God, and to follow worldly pursuits and causes instead of God’s plan. A simple internet search will show how our rights have been diminished in the name of the ‘greater good’ or any other popular issue you can think of.
We are living in days of thick darkness while our leaders feed us their words and not only feed but feast themselves. Seems like all politicians are narcissists these days. Each one of us needs to decide whether we will follow Pharoah’s example and harden our hearts or if we will choose to obey God no matter what nonsense gets spewed from the maw of (insert your favorite politician here). Everyone knows the result of apostasy or unbelief.
The question is: What will we, as individuals, do about it. Do we go along and take whatever government gives us? Or, whatever the worldly consequences, do we choose God?
God gave us the answer already. His Word is all we need. He is looking for you. Will you let him find you?
