Letter from the President, Melodie Bissell
October is Child Abuse Awareness Month in Canada.
I had already worked with children and youth for 20 years before I was confronted with the reality and prevalence of child abuse. It was never mentioned and never referenced in any training or in the classroom.
I began to read about the lived-out experiences of child abuse survivors. Their stories were heart-breaking but powerful and opened my eyes to their devastating impact on an individual’s life. Child abuse not only robs the victim of innocence, but it also alters the trajectory of life.
During the month of October, would you join us to raise awareness of the prevalence of abuse? Consider showing this video at an upcoming training or meeting.
