Minority Leadership Scholars
Our Minority Leadership Scholars had the opportunity to go to the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) Presidential Tour & Educational Fair.
The event includes a meet-and-greet with deans, alumni, and university and student leaders and is part of a community of events honoring the 45th Annual Florida Blue Florida Classic.
This past Thursday, FAMU Law Professor Marlese Wells (nee Ambrose) visited Boone and spoke with our 10th grade Law Magnet students.
Professor Wells spoke with students about the process to get into law school, what to expect during law school, and the bar exam. This presentation was extra special for our students because Mrs. Wells is an alumni of Boone's Law Magnet program. Professor Wells graduated from Boone in 2002.

Algebra 1 with Ms. Akenkou

One-Variable Inequalities Stations in Algebra 1
In Ms. Akenkou’s dynamic Algebra 1 class, students recently participated in a multifaceted stations activity to enhance their understanding of solving and graphing one-variable inequalities. The Khan Academy station allowed learners to engage with interactive online tutorials, fostering independent exploration. The scavenger hunt encouraged collaboration and problem-solving as students hunted for algebraic clues throughout the classroom. At the teacher-led station, personalized guidance ensured individualized support, and the error analysis station prompted critical thinking by dissecting common mistakes. This diverse approach not only catered to various learning styles but also instilled confidence, as students actively applied algebraic principles in a variety of contexts. The impacts will deepen their understanding of algebra skills to prepare them for their end of course exam in May.
Ms. Akenkou supports students in the teacher-led station. Students will rotate through the four stations throughout the lesson.

Earth & Space Science with Ms. Monaco
Students in Ms. Monaco’s Earth & Space Science and Access Integrated Science are learning about Newton’s laws of Motion which are the basics of classical mechanics such as the catapult.
They tested a ballistic catapult with objects of different weights to test the distance and height they traveled . We learned in the process that every time our catapult would come apart because of the large amount of tension created by the stored energy in it.

Excerpt from the Orlando Sentinel story:
Boone junior Arianna Wertheim swam A-A times while winning the girls 500 free (4:49.68) and taking third in the 200 free (1:48.24).
The Braves had a second state champion in senior diver Lanie Gutch, who won by a big margin. Gutch was the 4A champ in that event as a freshman and was runner-up as a sophomore and junior.

5) Cost of a 2023 Thanksgiving Dinner is down slightly from 2022:
Of all items surveyed this year, pumpkin pie mix ($4.44 per 30 oz. can) and dinner rolls ($3.84 per dozen) had the largest percent increase at 3.8% and 3.0% respectively. Of products surveyed, dinner rolls are the most likely to be prepared in-store, and thus could be impacted by sustained increases in wages due to a tight labor market.
Products with the largest percentage drop in prices included whipping cream ($1.73 per half pint) and fresh cranberries ($2.10 per 12 oz.) at a decrease of 22.8% and 18.3% respectively.

6) WISDOM TO LIVE BY:
As we start Thanksgiving break, we leave our Boone community with thoughts about gratitude, thankfulness, blessings, forgiveness, and compassion.
