Constructed between January 1966 and December 1971, the GP38 was one of EMD’s most successful diesel-electric road switchers. Featuring many of the same hallmarks found on other EMD road switchers, the type became a firm favorite of many railroads both large and small, thanks to its reliability and standardized design. More than 700 units were delivered to railroads across North America, and most remain in freight service to this day. The Williams by Bachmann GP38 features dual flywheel-equipped motors; die-cast trucks, truck sides, pilots, and chassis details; a durable ABS plastic body; sturdy stamped metal handrails; True Blast® Plus 16-bit polyphonic sound; operating couplers; and dual headlights.
