Would Williston shoppers like a Hobby Lobby, Buffalo Wings & Rings or 9 Round Kickboxing Gym in their town? The experts say yes. Buxton, a Dallas-based customer analytics company, has released its 2017 list of businesses most likely to succeed in Williston. The top 20 retail matches include popular fast food restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores. Ag Commissioner to lead Drought Roundtable June 27 in Mandan

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring will lead a drought roundtable meeting from 2-4 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, at the Farm Credit Services building, 1600 Old Red Trail NW, Mandan. "This roundtable is an opportunity for producers, ag groups and agencies to discuss the current drought situation in North Dakota and the options available to producers," said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. "Topics will include the status of the drought, forage quality and livestock management strategies, crop insurance forage options and the Farm Service Agency process to access Conservation Reserve Program acres for emergency haying and grazing."  Read More

Public invited to Veterans Town Hall June 29 in Williston

The Veterans Town Hall and Claims Clinic will be held June 29, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Old Armory. It is free and open to the public.
The Fargo VA Health Care System and Veterans Benefits Administration will host a Veterans Town Hall and Claims Clinic on June 29, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., in The Old Armory in Williston. 
The Town Hall will be hosted by the Fargo VA HCS Director, Lavonne Liversage, and the Director of the VBA's Dakotas Regional Office, Shawn Bohn.  The purpose of the Town Hall is to share information, hear feedback, and answer questions about VA health care and benefits.  All Veterans, their family members, and any organization or individual who works with or on behalf of Veterans is encouraged to attend the town hall. McKenzie County becomes State's First Billion-Barrel-of-Oil County

McKenzie County becomes state's first county to produce one billion barrels of oil.
Since oil production started here, McKenzie County has cumulatively hauled in over 1 billion barrels of oil.  That factoid came to light at last week's press briefing for April production numbers from the state department of mineral resources. McKenzie County surpassed 1 billion barrels in November 2016, spokeswoman Alison Ritter said. "That's our first billion-barrel county," said Lynn Helms, DMR director. The Williston Research Extension Center is gearing up for its annual Field Days July 13-14. On Thursday, there will be coffee and donuts at 8:30 a.m. followed by the dryland tour, horticultural tour, ribbon cutting for the Williams County Soil Conservation District Building at 11:30 a.m., the popular BBQ chicken lunch at noon and seminars in the afternoon. "If the wrong people get their hands on those, we could have a problem," says Joe Pfalzgraf, safety coordinator for North Dakota Recycling Services. Many prefer on-site shredding; as opposed to off-site. That's because documents shredded on-site are often destroyed before your very eyes. Beautifying Communities; Minot launches Adopt-a-Lot Program

A program aimed at reducing crime, increasing property values, and improving the appearance of the Magic City kicked off Tuesday morning. The Adopt-A-Lot program began with a simple concept. Organizations and businesses in the community commit to caring for vacant city-owned land in their neighborhoods. The pilot program aims to transform lots that have been left untouched since the 2011 flood. Marathon donates to New Fire Hall in New Town

Marathon Oil has donated $10,000 to the New Town Fire Department to be used for the construction of a new fire hall.  Keith Mingus, Marathon's Production Supervisor for the New Town area, said the company works closely with area fire departments to help insure the safety of workers and residents in the oil patch. Mingus said the company recently held a hazardous material training session with the New Town Fire Department. "We are making a donation to the rural fire department to help out and show our appreciation for all they do," Mingus said. "We realize that this is an all-volunteer effort. We really appreciate what they do. They are very very good to us." New Town News
