Williston Economic Development - The City of Williston has awarded nearly $1.2 million in STAR Fund incentives to 43 projects in 2019. These efforts leveraged almost $1.7 million in Bank of North Dakota (BND) matching dollars and $11.3 million in private investment. "STAR Fund activity in 2019 indicates that economic interest in the region remains high," said Shawn Wenko, Williston Economic Development executive director. The STAR Fund is designed to promote a viable community through grants funded by the one cent City sales tax. Twenty-five percent of the sales tax proceeds benefits job creation and community development while the remainder is utilized for infrastructure debt relief. Read More |

Williston Economic Development (WED) received a Bronze Award for its "Economic Development Week" project in the category of Innovation in Economic Development Week from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The project was recognized at an awards ceremony during the IEDC Annual Conference this fall in Indianapolis, IN. "It's always an honor when you are recognized by an organization such as IEDC. They are the gold standard in the economic development world," said Wenko.

Williston Enplanements continue to Climb

Williston's airport boardings are up nearly 20 percent compared to last year. Through November of 2019, 80,561 passengers had flown from Williston. This was an increase of 13,190 passengers or a 19.6% increase from the same time period in 2018.
In November, there were 605 more enplanements compared to the year before, an increase of 9.54%. In 2019, there were 6,945 airport boardings compared to 6,340 in 2018. November was the very first month the new Williston Basin International Airport was open from start to finish. In October, the airport operated for 22 days.

FOXBusiness - Of the 50 states reviewed by the American Legislative Exchange Council-Laffer Economic Outlook, North Dakota ranked number three. The report indicates North Dakota's recent tax changes contributed to its high ranking, as well as not taxing estate or inheritance, low average workers' compensation costs, low minimum wage, debt service as a share of tax revenue and it being a right-to-work state. Adding a trailer to Dickinson State University's campus has been in the works for about a year and a half
Now, it's finally made it to campus, as the soon to be home of the school's welding course, starting in January.
The Chair of Technical Studies says right now, there aren't enough welders to fill the needs of western North Dakota.
