While 2020 has had its share of setbacks and challenges, Williston Economic Development has also celebrated many accomplishments! We have accumulated some of the highlights from the past year in this week's Williston Wire. We are proud of what has been achieved in 2020 and look forward to a bright 2021!

Demo Flights in Williston

Williston Economic Development - “Vantis demonstrates the untapped “opportunity potential” in western North Dakota,” said Shawn Wenko executive director of Williston Economic Development. “Unmanned Aerial Systems and Beyond Visual Line of Site will be commonplace across the globe someday. But today, North Dakota is the leader. Vantis is happening and the first phase is going up in western North Dakota. Sanderson Cryogenic Gas Processing Plant
nears Completion

News Release - Outrigger Energy II announced in January, 2020 that it had entered into a long-term definitive gas gathering and processing agreement with XTO Energy, Inc. (“XTO”) to service XTO’s production in Williams County, ND. The gathering system will comprise a 70-mile rich gas pipeline originating in eastern Williams County and terminating at a new 250 MMcfd cryogenic gas processing plant located west of Williston. Williston Herald - Voters in the two school districts that serve Williston voted overwhelmingly Tuesday, Dec. 8, in favor of a plan to create a larger unified school district. Read More

Williston Restaurants

Williston Economic Development - Two popular restaurants announced they are coming to Williston at a press conference on Wednesday, October 14. Williston entrepreneur Pat Murphy said Slim Chickens and Pizza Ranch will be breaking ground at the new Williston Square in 2021. Read More
New Cosmetology School to open in Williston

City of Williston - Opening its doors in 2021, the Hair Society Institute of Cosmetology (HSI) will be the first cosmetology school in western North Dakota and eastern Montana. Located at 11 East Broadway, HSI will be co-owned and operated by Leticia Ortiz and Cynthia Gonzalez. Read More
New Long X Bridge celebrates Grand Opening

News Release - The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) celebrated opening the new Long X Bridge to traffic today. NDDOT Director Bill Panos along with other state and federal officials were in attendance to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the project. Read More
WED, SBDC Partnership celebrates Sixth Anniversary

Williston Economic Development - On September 8, the Williston City Commission approved up to $45,000 in a Williston STAR Fund Community Growth/Build grant for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a component of Williston State College. This grant marks the sixth anniversary of the City of Williston’s partnership with the SBDC. Read More

North Dakota League of Cities - Williston was named 2020 City of the Year by the North Dakota League of Cities (NDLC) during the League’s 2020 Virtual Annual Conference, Sept. 25. Read More
Wenko named 2020 Economic Developer of the Year

Economic Development Association of North Dakota - Gov. Doug Burgum presented the Governor’s Choice Economic Development Awards on Oct. 6 during the Main Street Summit, in partnership with the Economic Development Association of North Dakota. The 2020 recipient in the urban community division was Shawn Wenko with Williston Economic Development. Read More

Upcoming Energy Events

01/05 Williston API Annual Meeting
The social will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. at Four Points by Sheraton in Williston. The program will feature "Fuel Additives, What They Are and Why You Need Them" by Tom Pomonis.

02/20 Williston API Chili Cook-off
The 40th Annual Chili Cook-off will be held from 3-11 p.m. at The Well on the Williston State College campus. Admission is $10 per person. Must be at least 21 years old to attend.

05/11-13 Williston Basin Petroleum Conference
The conference will be held at the Bismarck Event Center in Bismarck.

11/19 Williston Petroleum Banquet
The annual celebration of industry achievements will be held at The Well on the Williston State College campus. More information
