Willows Update
March 28, 2020
Dear Willows students, parents, faculty, and staff,

We hope to be back together soon, in the meantime we are refining our eLearning plan based on your feedback. eLearning resumes Monday, March 30th. There will be no classes for Easter break from April 9-April 13.

The goal of our eLearning plan is to maintain our purposeful curriculum by focusing on a few key courses each day. Our teachers have been working diligently to learn new tools, record videos, find innovative resources, and design lessons to keep our girls’ minds growing. And, they've been doing this while working from home, while caring for their families, and navigating a pandemic - thank you for your hard work, teachers!

We have put together a schedule that provides for a routine with some flexibility. We will continue to use mostly asynchronous methods - meaning that students complete their work at different times. Some teachers will also schedule live (synchronous) classes.

Key tools for Willows eLearning:
  • All teachers will now be using Google Classroom to organize communication and assignments.
  • All teachers will now be using Zoom for teacher office hours, meetings, and,if applicable, live classes.

Willows eLearning schedule overview:
  • Core classes will have class days twice a week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.)
  • Elective classes, student council activities, and class get-togethers will be scheduled for Fridays.
  • Monday mornings at 6am parents and students will receive an email from Mrs. Czarnik with an eLearning plan for your grade for the week. The eLearning plan will include the times and links for teacher’s office hours and any live classes for that week.
  • Assignment details will be posted on Google Classroom pages at 8am on the scheduled class days.
  • Academic hours will be between 9-12 and 1-3 each school day. Teachers will schedule office hours and any live classes during this time and students should work on assignments during this time.

Students should:
  • Check Google Classroom every morning. Assignments and announcements for classes will be posted at 8am each scheduled class day.
  • Submit assignments by the due dates as posted.
  • Read directions carefully, and work with integrity.

Teachers are available to support students:
  • Academic hours are between 9-12 and 1-3 each school day. Teachers will schedule office hours and any live classes during this time.
  • Teachers will be available to respond to messages on Google Classroom and email during the academic hours. Messages received after 2pm may not receive a reply until the next day.

We want our eLearning plan to help establish a sense of normalcy while being sensitive to everything that is different in this time. We recognize that this is a difficult time and can be charged with many emotions and challenges. This is true for everyone in our community - students, parents, teachers, and staff.

As Pope Francis told us, “ We have realized that we are on the same boat, all of us fragile and disoriented, but at the same time important and needed, all of us called to row together, each of us in need of comforting the other.” Let’s continue to lift one another up with our work well done, friendship from afar, and our prayers for one another.

We all want to know when we will be able to resume normal life. At this point, it is impossible to give a specific date when it will be safe to return to school. I have asked teachers to plan their lessons as if we will work remotely through the month of April. The good news is that these days count as school days, and we will not have to make up any days in the summer.
