Salesmanship Merit Badge Skill Center


Just the merit badge you need to ensure you are set up for success for the upcoming popcorn sale!


July 29, 2023 at Hingst Service Center (Scout Office) from 1-4 PM

$15 per Scout (note, this is just for Scouts BSA members and not Cub Scouts.

Registration ends 7/28.

By studying salesmanship, Scouts can learn self-confidence, motivation, friendliness, and the persistence necessary to overcome obstacles and solve problems. Sales can offer a challenging and rewarding career for those who enjoy interacting with people from all walks of life.

What is your plan?

Willy wants to know what your plans are for your incorporating Willy Wonka into your popcorn sale/unit kickoff with your Scouts/Families. Whichever plan he likes the most will receive a special Willy Wonka prize. Please communicate your plans by 7/25 in an email to [email protected] and the winner(s) will be announced in Week 5's Willy's Wednesday's Wonderful Words.

List of storefronts that have been secured and those that can still be called upon: for those that are noted as "Available To Call" you are free to set up time with them on your own EXCEPT for the Walmart/Sam's Locations...we are working on them collectively. You are free to contact any store that is missing from this list that isn't marked as "Do Not Call".

Here is a list of the Popcorn Sale Dates:

July 28 First Unit Orders Due


12 units have orders that are in draft mode and not completed yet; 7 units have submitted their orders for approval. In the interest of time, all orders will be reviewed.


We may push this deadline back a week if we don't get the Walmart locations secured in time but time will tell. Operate with the 7/28 deadline unless otherwise noted.


Aug 17-18 Show and Sell Popcorn Delivery/Distribution

Aug 19 Storefront Sales Begin

Oct 22 Final Unit Orders Due and Returns Due

Nov 11 Purdue Football Experience (Top 5 Scouts)

Nov 16-18 Take Order Popcorn Delivery/Distribution

Dec 1 Final Payments Due to Council

Dec 16 Tentative--Malibu Jacks Experience (Wonka’s Century Club-Top 100)

Dec 18 “Wonka” Private Screening at IMAX 10 in Lafayette (time TBD) for Golden Ticket Winners Only




STOREFRONT UPDATES:

  • Total Storefront Hours booked in the TE system-4,308
  • Unit Claimed Hours 1,376 or 32% of space is secured.


There is plenty storefront times left to select.


Trail’s End has improved its support system for the Storefront Program. As you can imagine, emailing one person to handle the entire country can slow down the process. So we have upgraded our support for the fall sale. We now have 9 people within our new system standing by to help.

 

Here is the process for leaders and staff advisors:

  1. Go to Submit a ticket : Trail's End - Support (trails-end.com)
  2. Create ticket (feel free to copy in emails from your volunteers if they email you)
  3. Hit submit

Kroger/Payless have opted to not allow any sales this year, company wide. Do not contact those stores.

Trails End is currently working to book Walmart/Sam's stores for us (that weren't in the portal already). More to come when that process is complete.

Here is information on placing your popcorn order: Remember, the deadline is July 28!

Keep in mind, there is a NEW return product policy this year. You can only return 10% of THIS INITIAL ORDER. Anything you order after this initial order, your unit is responsible for. IE: If you order $20,000 in product, you can return $2,000 of product at the end of the sale. If you order $10,000 you can return $1,000 of product.


This new policy is in place to

-Allows council to forecast unit returns & plan for product transfers

-Minimal risk to the unit

-Manageable risk for the Council 

Special note on S'mores Popcorn

When you go to place your order you will have four order types...you will want to select INITIAL ORDER

Then you will input the amount of popcorn that you intend to order. The system will then auto-populate your optimal order based on historic sales/market data/and the $ amount you set.

You then have the ability to alter those auto-populated numbers to meet your needs. Make sure you hit SUBMIT when you are done.
