Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration and Volunteer Event
Monday, January 21st from 10am to noon
at Wilson Middle School
-- for the entire community (all ages welcome)
Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and discover how his legacy continues to inspire and empower us all. We hope you stay after the ceremony for a special service project! This year our goal is to assemble over 350 individual lunch and snack bags to help ensure that every child has access to food over February vacation break, when subsidized school meal programs are not available. We will be collecting specific items at the schools prior to the 21st to fill these bags and appreciate all the community support to make this project and event a success!

Donations Needed for Girl Scouts Silver Award:
Two eighth grade students, Lauren Hymes and Hallie McEnaney are attempting to earn our Silver Award in Girl Scouts. The idea for their project is to create backpacks that will be put in the Lilja Elementary School about topics discussed in school. These backpacks are intended to be extended learning opportunities for students. They'd like them to have fun activities such as, puzzles, plastic representations, books, and articles. The backpacks are about healthy foods, sports, musical instruments, birds, nature, and marine animals. We need your help!

Donations needed:
folders, notebooks, bird and nature guidebooks, binoculars, small portable sports equipment (frisbees, jump ropes, tennis balls), plastic fruits, books (more for elementary level), and puzzles.

There is a collection box in the Wilson lobby area.

What to bring? Your copy of the book and a snack to share (if you’d like!)

January’s Book:

Late Buses:
Please note that on days that the elementary schools have an early release, the late buses will arrive earlier to Wilson. On these days, all of the buses typically arrive by 3:00 pm. We make announcements as buses arrive and it is important for students to listen to these announcements so they do not miss the bus.
