Talking About In-Home Care | |
|
There are often signs that an older adult needs some help around the home. If you notice something, what should you do? The mere thought of approaching a conversation with a friend or loved one about in-home care can be intimidating but it is necessary.
Being proactive can make this a positive experience for everyone, especially since procrastinating after noticing warning signs can increase the possibility of an emergency situation happening. Keep the tone of the conversation casual and open. By making this an open dialogue and exchange of ideas, you’ll be able to listen to your loved one’s thoughts, concerns and desires regarding their future and in-home care.
Older adults often may realize that they need some help around the house but are hesitant to bring it up since they don’t want to be a burden or to lose their independence. By introducing the idea of in-home care, you may learn that they are relieved to hear that there is an option that means they can stay in their home, where they feel the most comfortable.
One important tip is to start talking about in-home care before the situation becomes critical or a medical situation requires attention. This strategy could even help to mitigate hospital admissions by addressing care concerns before something happens.
Thank you for the work that you do to keep seniors safe and thriving. We look forward to working with you again soon.
We appreciate our working relationship. If our services have made a positive impact on your business, please consider leaving us a Google review. Thank you in advance!

Family Story Swap
- What You Need: A list of prompts (or just creativity!).
- How to Do It: Each family member starts telling a story for 1-2 minutes, and then everyone else adds onto it. Keep it going until it turns into a funny or silly adventure!
“Reverse” Scavenger Hunt
- What You Need: A camera or phone.
- How to Do It: Instead of looking for things, each family member must take pictures of specific items (e.g., something red, something soft, something from the kitchen) and show them at the end of the hunt. It’s a fun twist on the traditional scavenger hunt!
DIY Escape Room at Home
- What You Need: A few clues, locks, and boxes (you can create a simple “locked” box with a combination or key).
- How to Do It: Design a mini escape room in one room of your house. Create a series of puzzles (e.g., number codes, hidden objects) to unlock a “mystery box” filled with treats or small prizes.
Paint & Sip Family Edition
- What You Need: Paint, canvases, and family-friendly drinks (hot chocolate, lemonade, etc.).
- How to Do It: Set up a paint and sip session where each family member paints a picture related to February or winter. You could all paint something like a snowman, hearts, or a cozy scene.
Family DIY Music Video
- What You Need: A smartphone, a fun song, and costumes or props.
- How to Do It: Pick a favorite song, dress up in quirky costumes or accessories, and create a fun, silly music video as a family. Once filmed, have a viewing party and laugh together!
