On Monday, July 10, 2023, the City’s contractor began the removal of the Island Street Bridge. We ask that users avoid recreating (swimming, use of kayaks, canoes, etc.) in or on the Ashuelot River near the Island Street bridge during reconstruction. The expected bridge completion date is mid-December 2023. Although the contractor is required to provide measures to prevent debris from falling into the river, there is a small risk of falling debris. There are also some in-river operations, such as pile driving and sediment control, that are not safe for river users. Due to the low estimated volume of users within the Ashuelot River, a warning sign package was not provided.
