Winchester Street Reconstruction: Island Street Bridge Removal

July 10, 2023

On Monday, July 10, 2023, the City’s contractor will begin the removal of the Island Street Bridge. This work was delayed several months from its original planned date.  The bridge will now officially be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians. Pedestrian barriers will be installed across the bridge, as it will no longer be safe to cross. The bridge will be closed for the entirety of the bridge removal and replacement work. The expected re-opening date remains in mid-December 2023.

A pedestrian detour map is available to show the alternate route. There are several signed detours in place for road users to find their way to Winchester Street, West Street, and Pearl Street. Maps are available on the project website to help guide users.
