Winchester Street Reconstruction: Project Update

Hello! Thank you for subscribing to our updates on the Winchester Street Reconstruction project. Please see a summary of recent and planned work below:


Recent work includes:

  • Temporary utility relocation in support of the Island Street Bridge reconstruction
  • Completion of concrete sidewalks and median islands south of Key Road
  • Completion of water main work south of the Island Street Bridge
  • Completion of stormwater work south of the Island Street Bridge
  • Landscaping along Winchester Street and within the median islands
  • Streetlight installation along the median islands
  • Removal of sidewalks from Island Street Bridge


Upcoming work includes:

  • Removal of temporary concrete barriers along Winchester Street
  • Pavement reclamation of the existing asphalt surface on Winchester Street
  • Fine grading of the proposed roadway surfaces and proposed roundabout at the Winchester Street, Island Street, Pearl Street intersection
  • Paving of Winchester Street, Island Street, and Pearl Street within the project limits
  • Deck removal from the existing Island Street Bridge
  • Temporary pile driving operations for the Island Street Bridge

The Island Street Bridge is now closed to both vehicles and pedestrians; demolition work is underway. Detour maps are available on the project website to help guide road users. The bridge re-opening date is still expected in late December 2023.
