Falls Prevention Methods
To ensure safety and code compliance, you should only use a product that is designed and tested for use as a fall prevention device, such as our Sterling Advanced Detachable Restrictor (SADR(S)) by Securistyle.
These devices are tested to EN13126-5 clause 5.7: Impact Testing–Grade 1, as well as meet the requirements of New York City Department of Health (NYCDoH). They are stamped with HDLD #04-02-2010. While other devices may limit the windows opening, such as hinges, window actuators and other types of hardware, these items are not tested for use as a fall prevention device and should not be used alone as such.
While children are the primary victims in falls cases, adults are not immune.
Remember, screens DO NOT replace adequate fall-preventing hardware. Limiting your window opening to 4" is the industry standard.
The SADR(S) restrictor is key releasable for maintenance and cleaning of the window. Tamper resistance screws should be used for mounting to prevent easy defeating of the device.
Please note that the SADR(S) is not a WOCD under ASTM F2090 and should not be used where emergency egress is required. We are working on releasing an approved WOCD and will make announcements once it is available.
