A day to worship, pledge and serve
Commitment Sunday at 10 a.m.
  • A single worship service features a message from Bob Henderson and a blend of traditional and contemporary music, including flute, cello and handbells.
  • We'll gather for lunch in the Fellowship Hall immediately after worship (sandwiches, chips, apples, cookies).
  • There is no Sunday School this week.

Here's a look at the month ahead
Dinner is in the Fellowship Hall from 5 to 6:30 p.m. followed by programs for all ages. Make a reservation for meals and/or child care.
  • Nov. 7: Final sessions of Bible Skimmed and Authentic Living in a Wired World 
  • Nov. 14: The Wingate University Singers (right) and Advanced Women's Ensemble will present J. S. Bach's Magnificat and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria with the N.C. Baroque Orchestra.

  • Nov. 21: Break for Thanksgiving Week
  • Nov. 28: Worship team takes over Open Table for a night! Jason Graffis and Covenant musicians will talk about the evolution of worship and what Bob Henderson calls "baptizing the secular."

Camera high in the sky is capturing progress
A construction trailer arrived this week to provide a base of operations for Shelco, our general contractor.  Site work will continue for the next couple of weeks when, weather permitting, foundation work will begin.  New to Covenant?  Learn about what we're doing.

Affordable housing development reaches milestone
Next up is groundbreaking 
Covenant's investment in affordable housing planned on Freedom Drive reached a milestone last week as attorneys closed on an agreement to move forward with the project. This was a major and complex undertaking. 
Thanks to Joe Taylor, Betsy Grant, Jeff Harris and Bill Keith on the Affordable Housing implementation team. A groundbreaking will be planned soon.

This past year, Freedom School Partners served 1,170 students across Charlotte. You can help provide supplies for next year's scholars. 

We'll collect items the fourth Thursday of every month. A bin is available in the Rec Wing. Details here.

Serve Thanksgiving at Moore Place
A Covenant tradition on Tuesday, Nov. 20
Join the team to serve at Moore Place, a community for folks overcoming homelessness. You can help by serving food, preparing side dishes and delivering supplies on the day of the event. Contact Julia Watkins.
  • We are also collecting new calendars and greeting cards for Crisis, Hope Haven and Moore Place neighbors. A bin is in the Rec Wing.

Share input on associate pastor search
Listening sessions are Dec. 2 and 9 in FH203
Joan  Watson retired Oct. 31 following 15 years of faithful service to Covenant. Prior to a search for staff leadership, the Personnel Committee invites you to share your thoughts on the qualities needed in Covenant's next associate pastor. We also welcome suggestions for people to serve on the search committee.
This position will be responsible to the church to assist in biblical teachings, to assist in fellowship events and church life, to lead in pastoral care and to provide pastoral services to the church family.
The Personnel Committee will host listening sessions on the following dates. If you prefer to give comments in writing, please send an email to

Interim associate pastor for congregational life
Full-time, ordained position
This position is responsible to the church to assist in biblical teachings, to assist in church life, to lead in pastoral care and to provide pastoral services to the church family. The position leads and coordinates the church's ministry to the pastoral needs of the congregation and fellowship events to enrich the congregation's life together. Learn more here.
