FAREWELL TO MINDY AND JESSICA!

WELCOME TO NANCY AND JULIEN!

Left to right: Julien Monick, Mindy Rosen, Nancy Knauf, Jessica Kovach

A Note from Peter Koenig, President

Fond Farewells

The Friends of Music Hall wishes Mindy Rosen all the best in her well-earned retirement, after graciously serving as FMH’s Executive Director for nearly the past five years. Mindy joined us just before the COVID pandemic hit, somehow cheerfully and adeptly got us through it, and is a big reason FMH has emerged stronger and more vibrant than ever with a bright future ahead. Jessica Kovach also is moving on to pursue other interests after expertly assisting Mindy, FMH’s world-class volunteers, and FMH’s board members these past couple years. We wish Mindy and Jessica continued success in the next chapters of their lives.

New Beginnings

We are pleased to announce the hiring of two people. Nancy Knauf has been appointed our next Executive Director. Nancy comes to us from a musical and business background and is perfectly positioned with her extensive skills in marketing, managing events, and cultivating relationships to expand our mission to preserve, improve, promote, and provide education about Cincinnati Music Hall as we move toward the 150th anniversary of Music Hall in 2028. Nancy will be ably supported by Julien Monick, who holds doctorate and master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Together they will team up to support FMH's 30-person board in activities including event planning, fund raising, membership development, tours, education, and inclusion. Please warmly introduce yourself to both when the opportunity arises. Welcome aboard, Nancy and Julien!

Mindy Rosen

After four plus years representing this amazing organization, I’m retiring at the end of the month. I’m pleased to hand over the reins to Nancy Knauf, our new Executive Director who will be assisted by Julien Monick.

Working with president Peter Koenig and the talented board members, we’ve accomplished a lot during our time together: selling out the brand-new Music, Mums and Mom and the Classical Pride tours, hosting a booth at City Flea, plus attracting over 10,000 people to BLINK in the Ballroom to name just a few.

Getting to know our 25 volunteers has been a joy. Their love for this building and its history inspired me from Day One. I treasure the time we’ve spent together.

I’m happy to say that I’ve left things a little better than I found them which is my personal definition of success. I know the new team will continue to fulfil our mission to preserve, improve, promote and educate about Music Hall.

Nancy Knauf

I am thrilled to represent the Friends of Music Hall and its mission. It’s an honor to do work that supports the preservation of Music Hall and educates visitors about its history.

I grew up in a musical household and have a deep passion for the arts. My father was a choral conductor and my mother was his piano accompanist. I have college degrees in journalism and music. I’m a past member of the May Festival Chorus and presently sing with the Viva Voices Choral organization.

My professional experience includes marketing and event management, program development, education, fundraising and community engagement. I’ve worked in a variety of industries – both nonprofit and corporate. I look forward to getting to know the board of directors and the many fabulous volunteers who conduct FMH tours.

My husband and I reside in the East Row Historic District in Newport, KY. Our home was built in 1892 and I have an appreciation for the importance of restoration and preservation of historic structures.

Jessica Kovach

Since I began working with the Friends of Music Hall in October 2022, I’ve made so many new friends and memories that I will cherish forever! I want to thank Mindy, Peter, the FMH board members, our fabulous volunteers, and all the staff at Music Hall who have made my experience here so wonderful.

I’m looking forward to pursuing more performance opportunities this summer, and hopefully seeing everyone from the Music Hall stage next season!

Julien Monick

I found my way to Cincinnati in 2017 for my Masters in Music Composition at the Conservatory of Music and stayed to complete my Doctorate in Music Composition by 2022. Throughout that time I’ve composed works for the College-Conservatory of Music’s Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, New Downbeat, and taught courses at the University of Cincinnati and at Miami University.

Everyone I’ve met so far at Friends of Music Hall been so kind and welcoming. I can’t wait to get to know everyone more and to make great experiences!

May Festival, Julia Wolfe's Her Story....

The 2024 May Festival brings music that carries us through histories—of labor, of the land, of people and place. Voices of the Earth celebrates the natural wonder of the Crater Lake region alongside a deep dive into the anthracite coal community in northeastern Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 23. Her Story, a voltage oratorio from inaugural Festival Director Julia Wolf, offers a reflection on women and equality on Saturday, May 25 at Music Hall.
