Farewell and Thank You Crawford!

Crawford Retiring

August 15 | 2024

Our long term WNSC employee and groomer extraordinaire is retiring. Crawford has been a key fixture at the Club and a big part of our success since he signed on with us in November 2006! If you see Crawford in the coming week, please take time to offer your thanks and best wishes in his new endeavors. Crawford will be relocating to Ontario in order to spend more time with family - something we can all relate to. If you want to submit some words here, we would be happy to gather them and pass them on to Crawford. The Board wishes Crawford well in his next chapter and good health for his hard earned retirement.

WORDS

Grooming / Maintenance Opportunity

Fall | 2024

.....As one door closes, another opens though big shoes will be required to fill it! Our Board will be working to create an official posting for a "Grooming / Maintenance" position, but we are also keenly aware that some Members might be interested in helping execute the key functions either in a volunteer or paid capacity. It could be one person full-time or multiple persons, part-time. Some key areas of responsibility are: snow grooming, winter lodge opening and checking / fire building, snow clearing, basic equipment preventative repair and maintenance, fuel procurement, scheduling key support services (propane, dumpster, sewage pump out), summer lease and building checks, off season trail maintenance (clearing windfall, mowing, collecting firewood, changing trail lights, etc). If you are willing to support the Club with any of the identified functions please contact us.

Operations Co-ordinator

Fall | 2024

We will also be posting for a contract person to help coordinate some of our Winter operations (membership & event registration, lessons, rentals, group bookings etc.) over and above what our volunteers can manage. Again, we want to give Members who may be interested in this paid role a chance to inquire first. Please reach out if curious about this opportunity. In the meantime, we will be working on refining the roles and responsibilities for this position and how it might intersect with weekend Lodge Attendants. Stay tuned on our website and social media for the official posting!

Thanks to everyone who submitted an idea during our Logo Concept Contest. Despite the challenges of summer vacation schedules, our volunteer subcommittee is chipping away at the process and received budget approval from the Board to work with a graphic design company. We hope to be able to share more in the September e-newsletter - good things are worth waiting for!

Safe Sport - NEW!

Ongoing in 2024 |

WNSC is in the process of adopting the Safe Sport Policies and Practices that are endorsed by the Provincial and National Sport Organizations that we are associated with. The policies are intended to promote a Safe Sport environment in a manner that allows for consistent, immediate, appropriate and meaningful action should any issues arise, and they are also intended to prevent issues from arising in the first place by communicating expected standards of behaviour. Watch for ongoing updates.

Stay Safe! Be BearSmart

Summer / Fall 2024 |

When using our trails, please remember that you are recreating in a wildlife corridor! Make noise, travel in a group carry bear spray somewhere accessible and know how to use it! The Club is not able to report all sightings so trail users travel at their own risk.
