This division takes pride in bringing “FUN” to the community. Working under the Parks & Recreation Director, the Recreation Division consists of seven full-time staff members and over 70 part-time seasonal staff. Every year, the Division strives to offer a wide range of recreational and enrichment experiences to the community and beyond.

On July 14, Governor Newsom announced that the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) has awarded the Town of Windsor the Prohousing Designation. Jurisdictions that earn the coveted Prohousing Designation have demonstrated a commitment to enacting policies to accelerate housing production and preserve affordable housing stock, and they have shown themselves to be partners with the state in combatting the housing crisis. 

The Town of Windsor is one of five jurisdictions statewide that recently received the Prohousing designation. Also included were the City of Santa Rosa and the County of Sonoma. With this announcement, there are now 27 Prohousing communities throughout the state, representing only 5% of all jurisdictions in California (cities and counties). The Prohousing designation makes these jurisdictions eligible for financial incentives and grant funding, including additional points in the scoring of competitive funding programs administered by HCD. 

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Windsor Day Parade, taking place on Saturday, September 30, followed by an exciting concert and festival on the Town Green.

The Kiwanis Club of Windsor is thrilled to announce that they are now accepting parade applications and seeking nominations from the community for the esteemed positions of Duke and Duchess of the Parade. 

Nominees for Duke and Duchess should meet the following criteria:

• Be a resident of Windsor
• Demonstrate active involvement and volunteer work within the Windsor community
• Make notable contributions to the youth of Windsor
• Exhibit leadership qualities in the community

On June 29, the Public Works Department hosted Michael Mosley from the United States Bureau of Reclamation (U.S. BOR) for a tour of the Town of Windsor’s wastewater treatment plant. Mr. Mosley is the Chief of the Water Supply Planning Branch at the Mid-Pacific Regional Office for the Bureau of Reclamation.

A few months ago, the Town applied for a grant with the U.S. BOR for a feasibility study, which could potentially lead to funding for wastewater treatment plant construction projects. As some of the infrastructure at the wastewater treatment plant has aged past its useful life, this grant would be a great benefit to the Town. Public Works hopes to receive feedback soon to determine if their grant application will be funded.

Manuel “Mike” Lownes, a beloved resident of Windsor recently celebrated his 105th birthday surrounded by friends and a surprise guest Mayor Rosa Reynoza this past weekend. A festive occasion hosted by Town Staff at the Windsor Senior Recreation Center.



Born on July 14, 1918, Mike's life has spanned a remarkable century, witnessing significant changes and historical events. Mike served in the Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 111 for 64 years.

The mayor's surprise appearance added a special touch to the festivities. She praised Mike's contributions to the community and presented him with a heartfelt proclamation. The highlight of the event was the touching photograph capturing the passing of wisdom from one generation to another.

The celebration left an indelible mark on the hearts of attendees, reminding everyone of the importance of cherishing and honoring our elders. The Town’s commitment to its senior citizens promises a future that embraces both its history and the promise of tomorrow.

Zero Waste Week is a grass-roots approach to raise awareness about the environmental impacts of waste and ways to live a more zero-waste lifestyle.

Throughout the week of July 23 - 30, California North Bay communities demonstrate how they are part of the solution through public awareness and activities that focus on reducing, reusing, recycling, repurposing, and composting. Anyone can be part of the solution!

Windsor Community Walk-Around and Livability Tour - July 29

WeACT a local citizen’s group will host a walk-around and livability tour on July 29 from 10AM – 12PM on the Town Green. 

The event will include a presentation on healthy communities providing a lens to evaluate the area for walkability, bikes, and comfort while having an expert on town design help participants "see" an area regarding its "livability".

On August 1, 5PM-7PM, come join Windsor Police Department and Sonoma County Fire District for the National Night Out celebration on the Town Green. The celebration will include local first responders, free food, emergency vehicles, and safety booths.

Going strong since 1984, ‘National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.’
