MUNICIPAL CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

The Town of Windsor is dedicated to preparing the community for the future and being the catalyst for a widespread cultural shift toward sustainability. The Windsor Municipal Climate Action Plan (MCAP) aims to help Town staff drastically reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of municipal operations, following the guiding principles of the 2019 Windsor Climate

Emergency Resolution 3548-19 to achieve Net-Zero by 2030, the 2022 Windsor Climate Resilience Plan, and the Town’s 2040 General Plan. Going”Net-Zero” means reducing GHG emissions as much as possible while balancing residual emissions through offsetting with carbon sequestration projects. The objectives established in the MCAP are complemented by recommendations for community engagement for a well-rounded approach. Additionally, this Plan supports ongoing sustainability efforts Town-wide that go beyond GHG emissions. Read the MCAP here!

MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN

Planning Process Public Survey ENGLISH and SPANISH

Sonoma County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan – 2026 Update

The Town of Windsor (Town) is partnering with the Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management on the update of the 2021 Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan for the County and 23 of its municipalities and special districts. The mitigation projects that are identified in the plan will reduce vulnerability and increase community resiliency to disasters.

The plan will focus on the safety of existing and future buildings, infrastructure, critical facilities, and how the community could be impacted by a natural disaster. A risk assessment will be conducted to identify hazards that may impact the Town including Sonoma County, and its municipalities and special districts, profile the relevant hazards and their potential consequences, identify assets subject to losses or damage, and estimate the potential losses resulting from each type of hazard.

The County and the Town are asking members of the public to contribute to the planning process by taking a survey. This survey is designed to gather information from around Sonoma County to help us better coordinate activities and reduce the risk of injury or property damage. These questions are for information-gathering only and responses will be shared with municipal, state, federal, and county entities for planning purposes only.

To access the survey and to find out more about the planning process, please visit the Sonoma Department of Emergency Hazard Mitigation webpage or follow the links listed below:

STAY SAFE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

The holiday season is here, and with it comes the warmth and beauty of decorated Christmas trees. While they’re a festive centerpiece in many homes, it’s important to keep safety in mind to ensure your celebrations are joyous and accident-free.

Here are a few tips to keep your tree—and your family—safe this holiday season:

Choose a Fresh Tree: Look for a tree with green needles that don’t fall off easily when touched. A fresh tree is less likely to catch fire.

Water Daily: Keep your tree stand filled with water to prevent the tree from drying out. A dry tree can ignite quickly.

Check Your Lights: Inspect all light strings for frayed wires or broken bulbs before decorating. Always turn off the lights when you leave the house or go to bed.

Place with Care: Keep your tree at least three feet away from heat sources like fireplaces, heaters, and candles.

The Sonoma County Fire District

wishes all of Windsor a safe and joyful holiday season.

May your celebrations be filled with

warmth, cheer, and the spirit of community.

Happy Holidays!
