“Robert Young,” 36" x 48" Limited edition fine-art print by Willow LaLand

Bold Flavors in Fauve
January's Featured Artist -Willow LaLand

Sonoma County wine-country artist, Willow LaLand, presents Bold Flavors in Fauve, a collection of wine-inspired paintings that allows the luxuriant color undertones to star. Working in acrylics or oils, she glazes layer upon layer until she senses the emergence of the wine’s multiple complex elements. Grounded in hyper-realistic vineyard landscapes, these works connect the viewer to the land that produces these world-renowned varieties. “Robert Young” transports the viewer on a high-tone experience of multi-hued wine with a richly rendered Sonoma vineyard in the background. “I love bringing out the subtle but bold notes in these exemplary wines,” noted LaLand. The artist’s Fauve painting series grew out of the popularity of these paintings in primary colors.

A third-generation artist, LaLand began exhibiting her paintings at an early age. She is inspired by early American realists, such as John Frederick Peto and uses techniques developed by 17th century painters to achieve dramatic realism. LaLand has exhibited widely and is internationally collected. She was featured in American Art Collector magazine in 2013 and on KRCB television in 2015.

Staircase Showcase

The Staircase Showcase features Sally Cataldo's “Inspired by Colors of Nature,” a collection of smaller mixed media works. The artist creates dynamic compositions with bold, surprising use of color, shape and line.   While these paintings are generally abstract, Cataldo looks to nature for her color inspiration. Rhythmic and colorful, these works almost sing for the viewer. Cataldo is a published artist who has exhibited widely.

"Nearly Day's End" 24" x 24" Pastel Painting by Jan Thomas
January/February Guest Artist - Jan Thomas
The Gallery is pleased to present paintings by Jan Thomas, a local Sonoma County artist.  Her pastel paintings are inspired by the landscapes she often sees in her neighborhood or other places around Sonoma County. Whether she is working outdoors or in the studio, her intention is to create interesting compositions of shapes, values and colors that evoke a sense of place. Thomas works most often with pastels. “I love the luminous effects achieved by layering pastel on gritted paper,” noted the artist.
