Staff Picks for the Patio
Doug's Pick:
2017 Two Mountain Rosé
We are only about 75 different labels into our rosé display (which isn't even near where we're going to be) so it's a little premature to make the call on my favorite rose of the year but this bottle by the guys at Two Mountain in Washington will probably make a run for the title. Made from cab franc and cab sauvignon, this wine is fresh and beautiful. It's got basically everything that I look for in a rosé.    - $15.99
Patti's Pick:
2015 Lady Hill 'Radicle Vine' Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley
In botany, a "radicle" is the first structure to develop from a seed, pushing into the ground and taking root (just like Spring)! Plenty of red fruits in this wine, complemented by baking spices and mouthwatering acidity. It's gulp-able on its own but would also do well paired with game meats, wild mushroom risotto, or the PATIO!  -$19.99
Madison's Pick:
2015 Weingut Niklas Schiava Alto Adige
This is one of the more refreshing red wines you can find on a shelf anywhere. Bright red cherry, almond, violets, and a bit of earthy minerality. Give this wine a slight chill in an ice bucket and its the ultimate red wine for the patio. Known as vernatsch or trollinger in other areas, schiava is a very ancient grape indigenous to this area in Northern Italy, thriving in the cooler climate and high altitude.  -$17.99
Dave's Pick:
Szigeti Gruner Veltliner Sekt Brut
If your anything like me, bubbles on Sunday morning is the new Jaeger Meister on Friday night. While I advise avoiding most of my habits, this one could be a key to sustained happiness. Sparkling wine is not only the beverage of choice for celebrations but can also provide a needed respite from a busy week. This specific wine is made in the traditional method from Gruner Veltliner. Gruner's profile of lemon, white pepper and bright acidity make it a natural for a light and dry aperitif type sparkler at a very reasonable price. Add this one to the arsenal. - $21.99
