Georgia On My Mind
and in my glass!!!
It's our weekly chat about wines we love.

Georgia (the country, not the state!)
is an incredibly interesting wine region, in fact it's credited by many as the birthplace of wine! And while this ancient wine region has continued to make some truly unique and lovely wines in its own classic style, it wasn't until recently that there were representations readily available here in good old Michigan!

Luckily that has all changed and there are a slew of wines coming from Georgia that are available and after a few of our staff members here at AOTT did a little deep dive into some history, style and of course wines from this country (see our virtual tasting setup pictured above!) we found a few gems that we are excited to share with you!

What truly sets Georgia apart aside from a focus on indigenous varietals is the lack of mechanization and mass production seen in the vineyards. While much of the wine world is returning to an older way of doing things, like no pesticides, native yeast and less intervention in the winemaking process, Georgia is at the head having never changed their way of making wine to begin with!

It is exciting to explore some wines from this country and while we are continuing to taste and learn more ourselves we are excited to bring you a little fun to explore as well!

We hope you can pop in tomorrow and give them a try,

Guardians Rkatsiteli
Kakheti, Georgia

Georgia is seen by many as the bridge between East and West, in both geography and culture. Guardians sets to highlight this identity and celebrate Georgia as not only the birthplace of wine but as the Guardian of wine for over 8,000 years.

Guardians also is very mission driven as it seeks to bring high quality and authentic wines from the region into the United States market at a price that is easy for people to delve into.

Here we have 100% Rkatsiteli which is an ancient, indigenous varietal that traces its ancestry back over 3,000 years. Naturally acidic wine when it is left to ripen, it offers up a well balanced and bright palate that is perfect for warm weather.

If you are a Sauvignon Blanc fan, this guy is right up your alley! Try with grilled fish on a fresh herb salad for a delightful pair!

Teliani Kindzmarauli
Kakheti, Georgia

Kindzmarauli is a style of red wine in Georgia that has had the Soviet union in awe for over a century and as it makes its way over to this side of the world it is easy to see why.

A delightful and easy summer friendly red that is best enjoyed with a slight chill, Kindzmarauli is made from 100% Saperavi, perhaps Georgia's most popular red wine varietal. Here the bold and high tannin red is made in a ~ now don't be scared by what we are about to say ~ slightly sweet style, which balances through the depth of this bigger varietal and makes for a giving yet amazingly approachable wine.

A juicy yet structured red, inside floral aromas lead to an abundance of wild berry fruit that finishes with a silky tannic end. Try with grilled meat maybe with a little spicy rub...and don't forget the slight chill, trust us its amazing!
