No, I didn’t drink all this. I was helping to clean up tables in Bilbao!
I just returned from a trip to Spain and France with an amazing group of people that I had the pleasure of escorting on a wine themed river cruise with AmaWaterways that included the cruise line's pre cruise land package in Spain.
Apparently, Bilbao can occasionally experience some high winds that can cause LOTS of turbulence for flights upon arrival at the airport. Suffice it to say, some in my group were part of the turbulence experience. However, the next 3 days in Spain, 1 in Bilbao and 2 in San Sebastian, were idyllic.....lots of walking, sightseeing, eating and drinking before we headed to Bordeaux to board the AmaDolce for our 7 day cruise through the Bordeaux wine region.
AmaWaterways did an outstanding job with service, food, tours, etc.
They had a wine expert on board who gave us presentations about the Bordeaux region and its wines. We were able to taste several wines during the presentations and discover the nuances between the region's terroir, the grapes and the impact of climate changes on the region and its wine. We visited small towns of the region, drank their wines in chateaus, ate all the regional specialties, visited historic sights, rode bikes through the countryside and so much more. We were treated like family and everyone in my group was amazed at how wonderful an experience river cruising is.
One of the best parts of river cruising is making new friends.
Not everyone in my group knew each other when the trip started. I had couples, girlfriends traveling together and a solo traveler in my group but by the end of the trip they were all friends and we even made new friends of others that were on the cruise. I was traveling with some family members and we now have some wonderful memories that we will be talking and laughing about for the rest of our lives. If you have a group of friends and/or family that want to travel together or if you're solo and want to travel, river cruising is a great way to see the world in the comfort of a group with most all details taken care of by the cruise line and your travel advisor....me!
