Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling

There are places of calm and serenity. So tranquil, so comforting, they harken forgotten desires of graceful connection. Nahe, Germany is such a place. There is quiet here. Ears buzz for want of noise while its absence inspires deep breaths and purposeful movements. The mind is allowed to wonder and contemplate. Slow is good. Slow is satisfying. The air has flavor, and sophistication is found in its blue sky. Stillness is your companion and contemplation your muse.

The Hermannshöhle vineyard is perhaps the greatest in Germany. It is for me. Riesling from this vineyard accomplishes what all great wines should, it tells a story of place. The clear quiet of the Nahe is present in each and every sip. It whispers welcome to the beauty of my home while inviting serene introspection.

Too much can be written about this wine, this winery. Too much to offer in this clumsy snippet. Yet if ever you question “why wine?”, Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle would be your answer. One taste and you smile knowingly. Of course you do, you understand the story; you understand the place. And that’s all you need to know.
