Wine of the Week!

Fèlsina Chianti Classico

For me, Fèlsina produces the greatest Chianti Italy offers. Theirs are brooding wines of poetry, purity, emotion, depth and light. Wines that are made to pair with family, friends, food and thought. The wines tell the story of place and Chianti easily conveys a feeling of home. That’s what makes Fèlsina so special; when you drink it you’re transported to a comfortable place of truth and acceptance. The wines easily express the heat of the Tuscan growing season, the rocky, chalky, mineral-rich marine sediment soils in which the Sangiovese grows, and the brilliantly blue skies under which the vines ripen. The family run winery has been around since 1966 and has continued to push the envelope of articulation and sustainability. The Chianti Classico is a wine worthy of your attention and dinner table.

A pairing note: Years ago I was in Tuscany having lunch at another winery. One of the courses of that lunch was Chianti Classico with Prosciutto wrapped figs. My mind melted. It was and still is one of the most wonderful food pairings I have ever experienced. We are currently in the midst of fig season. I highly recommend snagging a bottle of Fèlsina, some fresh figs and Prosciutto, have a seat outside on the patio while the sun sets, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the pairing. -Greg
