Our mission is to enhance the lives of individuals in the Upstate of South Carolina through the power of the horse.
August 2019
Dear Happy Hooves friends and family,

How does an evening filled with horses, delicious food & drinks, live music, riding demonstrations, and friends sound to you? We hope you will join us at this year's Wines & Equines fundraiser and make a difference in the lives of special needs children and adults in our community.  It is one of the highlights of the year for many of our friends and family!  This fun-filled evening is an opportunity to connect with the founders and staff, the volunteers, and even some of the riders, at a memorable event for raising much needed funds.  Please join us as we celebrate 18 years of enhancing individuals' lives with physical and emotional challenges, through the power of the horse!  This evening is for guests 21 years of age and older. Tickets are on sale now, please click here.

Photos from previous years' Wines & Equines can be found here.

God Bless you and keep you,
Becky Sweeney

Families worked together to paint, clean, and rebuild 3 of the 10 sensory stations.
Our Points of Light Volunteer Event was a Success!

Thanks to the families and friends of Happy Hooves who came together to work on updating parts of our 10 station sensory trail.

These stations were created to help special needs children take their therapeutic riding lessons out of the arena and onto the trail. Each station works to incorporate at least one of the 5 senses and lesson a ctivities there are catered to the special needs rider's specific goals. When riders play the xylophone or shoot basketball hoops on horseback on the sensory trail, we have seen improvements in balance, fine and gross motor skills, processing, increased verbalization, and more!

The Points of Light program is through Walt Disney World and is a family based volunteer program. Local families came together to support Happy Hooves, and we are excited to report that as a result of this volunteer project, Happy Hooves has been awarded 4 tickets to Walt Disney World! These tickets will be auctioned off at this year's Wines & Equines fundraiser on Saturday, October 5th!

Leadership Greenville Keeps on Giving!

Leadership Greenville is a Chamber of Commerce program for young professionals designed to develop committed, qualified community leaders who are informed about the needs in our area. As highlighted in our last newsletter, this team of Leadership Greenville participants chose Happy Hooves as their community partner and have spent months raising funds and completely renovating the playground on the grounds of Eden Farms, making it not only fun and safe but also completely accessible to all children. The team also presented Happy Hooves board members with funds to maintain the playground in the future and funds to allow special needs classes to participate in a monthly School at the Barn program for an entire school year! THANK YOU LG!
The Project SEARCH teachers have told Happy Hooves Staff that since the beginning of the summer, they have already seen significant improvement in their student's skills and decision-making processes!
Our Summer Program with Project SEARCH was Great!

We love coming alongside these young adults with special needs in therapy lessons, horse care, and life skills!

Project SEARCH is a nationwide program where newly graduated high school students with intellectual disabilities and developmental delays experience hands-on learning and training to help prepare their vocational skills.

Friends of the Farm

We want to thank our most loyal supporters and make all donors and volunteers, new and old, feel appreciated! Your support is essential to our mission to enhance the lives of individuals in the Upstate of South Carolina through the power of the horse.

Happy Hooves is an all-volunteer organization. All funding comes from donations, fundraisers and grants. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, over 80% of our Happy Hooves riders are able to receive therapeutic riding at no charge.

Happy Hooves currently serves nearly 160 children in the Upstate each year through therapeutic riding lessons, summer fun programs and School at the Barn.

School at the Barn has 570 therapy lessons and 570 Equine Assisted Learning lessons each year. Summer camp has 135 therapy lessons; and we have 400 individual therapy lessons for a total of 1675 lessons per year.

The therapeutic riding programs require an average of 40 trained volunteers each week, and run year round, with each volunteer working an average of 3 hours per week.

Eden Farms, home of Happy Hooves, is a beautiful 170-acre property with three arenas, a 40-stall barn that currently houses 30 horses; 13 boarders and 17 therapy horses. There is a handicapped accessible playground on the grounds, along with a sensory riding trail with man-made activity stations.

We once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support and your donations. We couldn't help so many special needs children and adults, and at-risk children and teens, without you!

Did You Know?

Happy Hooves has been a PATH International Premier Accredited Center since 2005. In fact, we are one of only six Premier Accredited Centers in South Carolina, and the only one in the Upstate. This accreditation is a rigorous process requiring centers to meet stringent requirements for staff, facilities, and programs. A program must be re-accredited every five years.

Your contribution helps special needs children and adults, as well as at-risk children and teens.
Happy Hooves is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
