Wings is a monthly newsletter about Hospice of Southern Illinois' news, hospice updates,  and information on events, volunteers, and veterans. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and their loved ones touched by a terminal illness.
Hospice Happenings

Hospice of Southern Illinois is very proud to have the honor of hosting the only PGY-2 (post-graduate, year 2) in Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacy Residency Program housed in a hospice, in the United States. We are pleased to introduce and welcome the full-time, on-staff, PGY-2 Pharmacy Resident, Brad Rea, PharmD. Our patients, families and organization will directly benefit from this very special program, which is 1 of 15 in the country and the only 1 fully funded by a hospice. Dr. Rea will play a critical role in delivering the highest quality end-of-life care to patients and families we serve. He will also help us grow and continue providing top-notch, end-of-life care as your local, not-for-profit hospice.

Heavy Hearts, Honoring Friends

It is with heavy hearts we share with our community the loss of two of our own, Karol Hunter and Sara Buttimer. When you work in hospice care, we may be numb our own feelings from  the true hurt, constant grief and raw emotions that our patients and their families feel.  In the past month, we were reminded the importance of what we do. We are saddened to lose two co-workers, and dear friends, who made our organization a better place to work and spend our days. They will be missed greatly. We will find peace in the memories of their smiles, hard work and caring nature.
Our Sara was one of the kindest people you would ever meet. She welcomed everyone with a hello and a smile. Her genuine care impacted everyone. Friends and co-workers alike could always count on her, in the workplace and for fun times after work too. Sara was the person you enjoyed being with and it is her bright soul that we will remember and honor. Karol was the hardest working man around. Not only did he take pride in his work, but he went above and beyond for everyone he knew, including his Hospice of Southern Illinois' family. He would do anything for anyone, from helping them move things in the office, to loading their vehicle, or helping them move on a weekend. It's his willingness to help, and always with a smile, that we will never forget and memorialize forever. Click Here for More
